Job Description
About the Role
The MEP Coordinator position at Openai is a critical role that requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to oversee field execution. As a key member of the Stargate team, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the installation of chilled-water systems, MCUPs, CDUs, TES tanks, pumps, valves, and piping. The role will also involve coordinating closely with electrical, controls, and commissioning teams to ensure system readiness.The Stargate team is central to Openai's mission to build the world's most advanced AI infrastructure ecosystem. The team is responsible for setting the core infra strategy and implementing this vision, from site selection to buildout process. This is a unique opportunity to work on a project that has the potential to revolutionize the field of AI.
What You Will Do
- Manage installation of chilled-water systems, MCUPs, CDUs, TES tanks, pumps, valves, and piping
- Oversee ductwork, air-handling, and hydronic systems to ensure design compliance and constructability
- Coordinate closely with electrical, controls, and commissioning teams to ensure system readiness
- Review submittals, track equipment deliveries, and support material inspections
- Conduct field walks for QA/QC, punch-list management, and mechanical completion verification
- Support startup and turnover documentation with the commissioning team
- Maintain accurate as-built information and report progress against schedule milestones
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project goals are met
- Develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ years of experience managing mechanical systems on data center or industrial projects
- Deep knowledge of chilled-water and heat-rejection systems, fluid dynamics, and controls integration
- Field-oriented and proactive in resolving constructability issues
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly across trades
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and outside the box
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations
