About the Role

As a merchant at Home Depot, you will play a critical role in driving the company's category strategy, developing supplier relationships, and managing financial planning. The merchant role is a key component of Home Depot's merchandising team, responsible for making informed buying decisions, negotiating with suppliers, and driving category growth. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and operations, to develop and execute category strategies that meet customer needs and drive business results.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute category strategies to drive sales growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate prices, terms, and product offerings
  • Analyze sales data, market trends, and customer insights to inform buying decisions and category strategies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute marketing plans, product launches, and promotional campaigns
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to achieve category goals and objectives
  • Identify and mitigate risks, including supply chain disruptions, product recalls, and market fluctuations
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve product assortment, pricing, and inventory management
  • Conduct business reviews and analysis to identify opportunities for growth and improvement
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitor activity, and market developments to inform category strategies
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of customer needs, preferences, and shopping behaviors

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in merchandising, buying, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders
  • Experience managing large-scale projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and risk management
  • Strong knowledge of the retail industry, including market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and operations
  • Strong Excel skills, with the ability to analyze data and create reports
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a brick-and-mortar and online retail environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Experience with project management tools and software
  • Certification in merchandising, buying, or a related field
