Job Description

About the Role

The NDE Specialist position at GE Vernova involves leading and completing Non-destructive projects in the field to support the engineering analysis of high-energy and low-temperature components. This role is crucial as it directly impacts the safety and efficiency of operations across various industries. Working closely with the Condition Assessment Team, the successful candidate will contribute significantly to the engineering assessment and disposition of boiler components. The role offers the opportunity to work with advanced technologies, including phased array ultrasonic inspection, and to develop a deep understanding of metallurgical evaluations.

As a member of the Field Inspection Services team, the NDE Specialist will be responsible for conducting and documenting the results of field assessments and then communicating these findings effectively to customers. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to ensure that complex technical information is conveyed clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The team context for this role involves working closely with engineers, technicians, and customers, both in the field and in an office setting. The NDE Specialist will be expected to provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff members and will be responsible for organizing and reporting test results. This position also involves participating in client programs, planning, and strategy sessions, providing detailed explanations of NDT techniques and results to non-NDT oriented personnel.

What You Will Do

  • Set up and calibrate Non-destructive (NDT) testing equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT methods of inspection, focusing on safety and adherence to standards.
  • Establish techniques for the proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations and applicable specifications or standards.
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results to provide comprehensive analysis.
  • Organize and report test results in a clear and concise manner, suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Perform specialized inspections as required, utilizing advanced NDT methods such as phased array ultrasonic inspection.
  • May instruct and supervise others, including subcontractors, in the use of NDT equipment and techniques.
  • Interface daily with clients about work priorities and provide daily progress reporting to ensure transparency and satisfaction.
  • Actively participate in client programs, planning, and strategy sessions to contribute to the development of inspection strategies and solutions.
  • Provide detailed explanations on NDT techniques and explain results to non-NDT oriented personnel in a simple, understandable manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including travel to client sites for inspections and the potential for work on weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

What We Are Looking For

  • Diploma in a Technical Discipline from a Trade School, Vocational, or Military Program AND at least 8 years of related experience using NDT Techniques in Power Generation, Industrial, or Manufacturing environments.
  • High School Diploma/GED AND at least 10 years of related experience using NDT Techniques in Power Generation, Industrial, or Manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum 7-8 years of experience showing the ability to effectively perform assigned NDT tasks and interpret results of inspections.
  • Eligibility Requirements: Must have a Valid Driver's License and be fluent in English.
  • Strong understanding of Non-destructive methodologies, including advanced methods such as phased array ultrasonic inspection.
  • Experience with automated and computerized NDT Equipment.
  • Demonstrated work history supporting customers and producing final reports.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Basic skills training to ensure knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and engineering drawings.
  • Code shooting capabilities.
  • Exceptional safety and quality awareness.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Team working and mechanical aptitude.
  • Certification as a Level II in MT, PT, and UT, or the ability to meet company certification standards, is highly desirable.
