Job Description

About the Role

The Director of Development at NWAAF will play a pivotal role in driving the organization's mission forward by designing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy. This role entails working closely with the Executive Director, Board, and other stakeholders to build a robust donor portfolio and secure sustainable revenue streams. As a key member of the team, the Director of Development will be responsible for nurturing relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners, ensuring that NWAAF's impact is amplified through strategic storytelling and community engagement.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the nonprofit sector, particularly in the context of reproductive justice and community care. They will be well-versed in the latest fundraising trends and technologies, with a proven track record of meeting revenue goals and building strong relationships with donors.

As a remote role, the Director of Development will need to be self-motivated, disciplined, and adept at working in a virtual environment. They will be expected to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across different time zones, leveraging digital tools and platforms to facilitate communication and drive results.

What You Will Do

  • Design and execute a multi-channel fundraising strategy to grow sustainable revenue for NWAAF
  • Build and steward an authentic major donor portfolio, creating individualized cultivation plans and clear annual targets
  • Lead grants strategy and management, including prospecting, proposal development, tracking, budgeting, and timely reporting
  • Develop and improve development systems and dashboards, including CRM management and pipeline moves management
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Board to activate peer networks and support donor stewardship
  • Serve as a public voice and media spokesperson for NWAAF, providing message guidance and talking points to leadership
  • Represent NWAAF at events and within coalitions, identifying opportunities to amplify community voices and build shared power
  • Coordinate cross-team projects that align fundraising, communications, and program storytelling
  • Lead the Communications, Partnerships, and Fundraising Circles, setting quarterly OKRs, supporting execution, and facilitating learning loops

What We Are Looking For

  • A deep commitment to reproductive justice, community care, and NWAAF's values
  • Experience working alongside impacted communities, with a strong understanding of the social and economic contexts that shape their lives
  • Demonstrated success meeting revenue goals, typically 6–8 years of nonprofit development experience, including 3+ years of experience in a major role in donor leadership
  • Experience with grant prospecting, proposal development, and reporting, with the ability to align grant budgets with program needs
  • Demonstrated ability to write and create compelling, donor-centric content across multiple formats (digital, print, and in-person)
  • Ability to translate impact into compelling, dignified narratives that uplift the stories of abortion seekers and volunteers
  • Proficiency with CRM/donor management software, email and digital fundraising platforms, and basic analytics/reporting
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business, or a related field

Nice to Have

  • Experience with digital fundraising platforms and social media marketing
  • Knowledge of participatory governance structures and collaborative leadership models
  • Familiarity with Little Green Light, Bloomerang, or other CRM software
  • Certification in nonprofit management or a related field
  • Experience working in a remote or virtual team environment
