About the Role
The Oncology Registry Data Specialist role at OU Health is a remote, part-time opportunity that plays a critical role in the cancer registry department. As a skilled professional in this field, you will be responsible for identifying, abstracting, and analyzing data from medical records pertaining to diagnosed cancer cases. This role is essential in ensuring that the cancer registry is accurate and up-to-date, which is critical for providing high-quality patient care and advancing cancer research.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare or healthcare informatics, with a minimum of three years of experience in the field. You will be working closely with the oncology registry team to improve processes, work methods, and procedures, and will be responsible for maintaining abstracting timeliness and productivity requirements.
What You Will Do
- Research all appropriate sources to identify reportable cancer cases in compliance with OH Health, CoC, and OCCR
- Abstract demographic, diagnosis identification, stage at diagnosis, first course of treatment, and follow-up information in compliance with OU Health, CoC, and OCCR
- Maintain abstracting timeliness as determined by the cancer committee
- Maintain productivity requirements: at least one abstract completed per two hours (average)
- Maintain 95% abstracting accuracy
- Work with oncology registry team to improve processes, work methods, and procedures
- Monitor daily workflow and assignments to ensure compliance with key performance indicators
- Maintain confidentiality requirements
- Maintain personal and professional growth through education, organization memberships, seminars, and other opportunities
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3 or more years of experience in healthcare or healthcare informatics required
- Oncology data experience preferred
- Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) issued by the National Cancer Registrars Association required
- Knowledge of current American College of Surgeons' standards and requirements (CoC, NAPBC, and NAPRC)
- Computer competency including Microsoft Office, EPIC, and CRStar
- Advanced organization and time management skills
- Advanced written and verbal communication
- Advanced teamwork and collaboration abilities

- Experience working in a remote environment
- Certification in a related field, such as healthcare informatics or cancer registration
- Experience with data analysis and reporting
