About the Role

The Open Source Program Developer position at Datadog is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of open source software and tools. This role is part of the Open Source Program Office (OSPO) and will focus on building tools, documentation, and policies that enhance the interaction between Datadog engineers and open source projects. What You Will Do

  • Build and maintain tools that simplify the process of building and releasing open source software at Datadog.
  • Develop tools that make it easier for Datadog to ingest open source software, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruptions.
  • Create comprehensive developer-facing documentation and training materials to guide contributors in navigating open source projects and best practices.
  • Engage with open source communities to stay abreast of emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities, representing Datadog in these interactions.
  • Design and implement tools to analyze and report on trends and statistics from open source repositories, providing valuable insights back to the development teams.
  • Collaborate with Datadog's Open Source Partners to identify new projects for the program and ensure the program's continued relevance and benefit to the community.
  • Research and write content for the Datadog Open Source Hub, showcasing the company's commitment to open source and its contributions to the community.
  • Contribute to the product through feedback, documentation, or code, ensuring that the needs and insights from the open source community are integrated into Datadog's offerings.

What We Are Looking For

  • Approximately 3+ years of experience as a software developer, SRE, or in a related role, with a strong focus on open source software and community engagement.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and frameworks.
  • Experience with building tools for developers, preferably with a background in creating solutions for open source software development and collaboration.
  • Strong empathy, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and communities.
  • Familiarity with open source licenses and Contributor License Agreements, understanding the legal and ethical aspects of open source development.
  • A proven track record of contributing to open source projects, either as an individual or as part of a professional role.

  • Active membership or contributions to open source communities, demonstrating a deep understanding of community dynamics and the importance of open collaboration.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git.
