About the Role
The Open Source Program Developer role at Datadog is a unique opportunity for developers to work on building tools, documentation, and policies that enhance the interaction between engineers and open source projects. As part of the Open Source Program Office (OSPO), you will be responsible for developing and maintaining tools that simplify the process of building and releasing open source software at Datadog. This role matters because it enables engineers to focus on what they do best: building innovative software.The team context is highly collaborative, with a strong emphasis on open communication and empathy. You will be working closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that the tools and processes you develop meet the needs of the organization. The reporting structure is flat, with a strong emphasis on autonomy and ownership.
What You Will Do
- Build and maintain tools that ease building and releasing Open Source software at Datadog
- Develop tools that simplify the process of ingesting Open Source software at Datadog
- Create developer-facing documentation and training materials around contributing to open source and maintaining open source projects
- Interface with open source communities to understand problems and trends in the market
- Develop tools to automatically analyze and report on Open Source repositories trends and statistics
- Collaborate with Datadog Open Source Partners candidates and recipients to select new projects for the program
- Research and write content for the Datadog Open Source Hub
- Contribute to the product through feedback, documentation, or code
What We Are Looking For
- Approximately 3+ years of experience as a software developer, SRE, or other practitioner
- Fluency in reading and writing one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java, Go, C#, Rust)
- Experience with open source projects and communities
- Strong empathy, collaboration, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team
- Bonus: Experience as an active member of an open source community
- Bonus: Familiarity with different Open Source licenses and Contributor License Agreements
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-based technologies and distributed systems
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools
- Familiarity with Datadog's products and services
- Experience with documentation and training materials development
