About the Role
The Opto-Mechanical Designer will play a critical role in designing and modeling mechanical components to interface with optical elements. This position requires a strong understanding of optical systems and the ability to develop innovative solutions. As a remote worker, the successful candidate will be comfortable working independently and collaborating with a global team.The Opto-Mechanical Designer will be responsible for designing and modeling mechanical components, including mounts and positioning systems for optical elements. This role will also involve developing detailed drawings and models of optical systems and components. The ideal candidate will have experience working with CAD software, such as SolidWorks or NX, and be able to provide practical and innovative solutions to complex design challenges.
The Opto-Mechanical Designer will be part of a dynamic team of engineers, technicians, and manufacturing professionals. This role will require strong communication and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
What You Will Do
- Design and model mechanical components to interface with optical elements, including mounts and positioning systems
- Develop detailed drawings and models of optical systems and components
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions to complex design challenges
- Provide technical support for the development and testing of optical systems
- Develop and maintain documentation of design concepts, models, and test results
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to the development of design standards and best practices
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop fabrication and assembly drawings
- Support the development of test procedures and protocols
- Conduct analysis and evaluation of design concepts to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field, such as mechanical engineering or optical engineering
- 7+ years of experience in opto-mechanical design, including experience with CAD software
- Strong understanding of optical systems and components
- Experience working with optical elements, including lenses, mirrors, and diffractive elements
- Proficient in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or NX
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment
- T/SCI Secret Clearance
Nice to Have
- Experience working with NASA or other space-related organizations
- Knowledge of space flight hardware and optical systems
- Experience with computer-aided design and modeling software
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations
