About the Role

The Opto-Mechanical Engineering Manager position at Quartus Engineering is a key leadership role that requires a unique blend of technical expertise and management skills. As a member of the aerospace sector team, you will be responsible for leading and growing a team of opto-mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance, and overseeing project development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in opto-mechanical engineering, experience with programmatic tools like Excel, and excellent leadership abilities.

The role entails day-to-day management of a team of 3-6 engineers, fostering collaboration and high technical performance, and mentoring team members to develop their skills. You will also serve as a technical lead on projects involving optical system development for aerospace applications, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a team of opto-mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance and oversight
  • Foster team collaboration and high technical performance, with a people-first approach
  • Mentor, motivate, and develop team members to achieve their full potential
  • Serve as technical lead on projects involving opto-mechanical design development and optical instrument AI&T
  • Delegate, oversee, and plan project work in collaboration with program managers
  • Perform technical work on challenging aspects of projects, collaborating with experts in other engineering disciplines
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to technical development in areas of interest
  • Contribute to sales efforts by writing proposals, presenting engineering capabilities, and supporting business development teams
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in opto-mechanical engineering and related technologies
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in optical systems development

What We Are Looking For

  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Opto-Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a similar engineering field
  • 10+ years of industry experience, with at least 2 years of personnel/team management experience
  • Expert understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and opto-mechanics
  • Experience with mechanical CAD software (Solidworks preferred) and finite-element-analysis packages
  • Proven ability to develop and manage engineers, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with project management, technical and programmatic leadership, and cradle-to-grave systems engineering
  • Comfortable making presentations in front of customers, senior leadership, and larger audiences
  • Experience developing business proposals and supporting sales organizations to win and develop new business

  • MATLAB and/or Python experience
  • Zemax experience
  • Machine shop experience
