About the Role

The Outage Manager position at GE Vernova is a critical role that entails the preparation, planning, execution, and close-out of complex planned and emergent outage events for steam turbines and generators. This role is pivotal in supporting the development of the business strategy for field fulfillment excellence in GE Steam Power. As an Outage Manager, you will be responsible for driving consistent outage planning and execution, adopting best practices, and leveraging lessons learned to continuously improve processes. You will lead complex outages for assigned territories or locations, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution.

The Outage Manager will be an integral part of the team, providing technical direction and expertise in steam turbine and generator maintenance. Your ability to manage complex outage events, ensure customer satisfaction, and drive project delivery within safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) parameters will be essential. The role requires a strong understanding of steam turbine and generator maintenance planning, the ability to manage large teams, and excellent communication skills to interface with all levels of the organization and external customers.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare, plan, and execute complex planned and emergent outage events for steam turbines and generators, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, delivery, and cost requirements.
  • Develop and manage outage schedules, including planning for labor, tooling, and cost.
  • Lead onsite execution of outages, ensuring that all aspects of the project are managed effectively, including safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage on-job cost tracking, productivity, and execution risk, implementing strategies to mitigate risks and optimize outcomes.
  • Support the development of project quotations, including work scope, site conditions, preliminary safety and risk analysis, and cost planning.
  • Collaborate with the customer operations team during shutdown, startup, running, and performance testing of turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
  • Ensure proper execution documentation is prepared, used, reviewed, stored, and delivered, including field procedures, quality procedures, EHS, and customer outage reports.
  • Utilize web systems applications for allocation, preparation, planning, and forecasting of labor, tooling, and vendor management.
  • Respond promptly to forced outages or emergencies, investigating and escalating site issues as necessary to restore units to operating conditions in a timely manner.
  • Support technical communication to customer staff during outage execution, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and aligned.
  • Actively work to improve and optimize existing processes, seeking simplification opportunities and driving change where necessary.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years of experience in the power generation industry, with a focus on steam turbine and generator maintenance.
  • Alternatively, 8+ years of applicable experience with demonstrated success and knowledge in steam turbine or generator maintenance, and 3+ years of specialized industry experience in gas/steam turbine generator and auxiliary system outage planning and execution.
  • Strong project management and planning skills, with proficiency in tools like Primavera scheduling preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in web applications.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • English proficiency required.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with GE, Alstom, or other manufacturers of industrial steam turbines and generators.
  • Knowledge of field engineering, technical direction, and outage management.
  • Certification in project management or a related field.
  • Experience with remote work and flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays as required.
