## About the Role The Outpatient Coding Specialist role is a critical part of Lifepoint Health's Health Support Center team, responsible for assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes for outpatient services. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure compliance with official coding guidelines and hospital policies. As a member of the team, you will have access to comprehensive benefits, ongoing education and training, and opportunities for career growth and development. ## What You Will Do - Assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems - Analyze complex medical documentation to ensure accurate coding - Achieve and maintain 95% accuracy on quality reviews and assigned productivity standards - Utilize Ambulatory Payment Categories (APCs) and the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements - Collaborate with healthcare professionals to resolve coding discrepancies and ensure high-quality patient care - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and industry developments - Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with changing coding requirements - Submit physician queries to clarify documentation and ensure accurate coding - Facilitate positive working relationships with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals - Assist in training and reviewing the work of other coders for accuracy and efficiency - Contribute to the development of coding workflows and procedures to improve departmental efficiency ## What We Are Looking For - 2+ years of experience in outpatient coding, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting - Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems - Ability to analyze complex medical documentation and assign accurate codes - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team - Proficiency in Excel and other coding software - Certification in coding, such as CPC or CCS - Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high levels of accuracy - Ability to adapt to changing coding requirements and regulations ## Nice to Have - Experience with electronic health records (EHRs) and coding software - Knowledge of regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA and OIG guidelines - Experience in a leadership or mentoring role, with the ability to train and review the work of other coders - Certification in a specialized area of coding, such as COC or CIC ## Benefits and Perks - Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage - Financial protection, including life insurance, accident insurance, and critical illness insurance - Paid time off and holidays - Opportunities for career growth and development - Remote work arrangement, with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States - Ongoing education and training to stay current with changing coding requirements - Recognition and reward programs to acknowledge outstanding performance
