Job Description

About the Role

The National Football League (NFL) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Part-time NGS Data Quality Engineer to join its Next Gen Stats team. As a member of this team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of game data, working closely with the engineering team to review and verify data during live games. This is a remote position, with the successful candidate working on Sundays during the NFL season.

The NFL's Next Gen Stats team is dedicated to providing innovative and insightful data analysis to enhance the fan experience. As a Data Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing and verifying data on all plays during live games, ensuring that all plays have data and video mapped properly, and confirming player participation on a play-by-play basis.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for football, combined with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You will be self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and be available to work on Sundays during the NFL season.

What You Will Do

  • Review and verify data on all plays during live games
  • Ensure all plays have data and video mapped properly
  • Confirm player participation on a play-by-play basis
  • Confirm all advanced statistics are created post-play
  • Make necessary changes to data when incorrect using in-house developed web-based tools
  • Collaborate with the Next Gen Stats engineering team to identify and resolve data discrepancies
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the NFL's data analytics platform
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices
  • Work closely with the team to identify areas for process improvement and implement changes as needed
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong football knowledge and understanding of the game
  • Computer savvy, with experience using tools such as Chrome, Slack, Google Docs/Sheets, and Zoom
  • Detail-oriented and reliable, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis is a plus
  • Familiarity with web-based tools and platforms
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
