About the Role

As a Patent Prosecution Technical Advisor or Patent Agent (Biotech) at Direct Counsel, you will be part of a highly respected Am Law firm, working closely with scientists, inventors, and legal experts to develop and protect innovative technologies. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include managing global patent portfolios, drafting and responding to office actions, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to drive business growth. The role requires a deep understanding of biotechnology, patent law, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What You Will Do

  • Manage global patent portfolios, ensuring that all patents are properly filed, maintained, and protected
  • Draft and respond to office actions, working closely with lawyers and scientists to develop effective patent strategies
  • Collaborate with scientists and inventors to develop and protect new technologies, providing technical expertise and guidance on patent-related matters
  • Develop and implement IP strategies that align with business objectives, ensuring that the company's innovative technologies are safeguarded
  • Conduct thorough analysis of patent applications, identifying potential risks and opportunities for growth
  • Provide technical support for patent litigation, working closely with lawyers and experts to develop effective legal strategies
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including scientists, inventors, and legal experts
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in patent law and biotechnology, applying this knowledge to drive business success
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, scientific, and business teams, to drive IP strategy and business growth
  • Utilize Excel and other tools to analyze data, track progress, and identify areas for improvement

What We Are Looking For

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Protein Design, Structural Biology, or a related field
  • Strong scientific writing and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear legal/scientific language
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • USPTO registration preferred, but not required
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex data and identify areas for improvement
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong collaborative mindset
