About the Role
Patient account representatives play a vital role in ensuring that patient accounts are processed efficiently and effectively. As a patient account representative at SSM Health, you will be responsible for managing patient accounts from start to finish, including processing insurance payments, following up on denied claims, and resolving credit balances. This is a remote position, offering the flexibility to work from the comfort of your own home, as long as you reside in MO, IL, OK, or WI.The patient account representative role is a critical component of the revenue cycle team, working closely with other departments to ensure that patient accounts are resolved in a timely and professional manner. What You Will Do
- Process the insurance component of patient accounts, using third-party claims processing and payment rules
- Bill claims appropriately, following up on denied claims and performing appeals and denial recovery procedures
- Work denied claim lines and no-response claims to resolve outstanding accounts
- Analyze credit balances on patient accounts and resolve them in a timely and professional manner
- Respond to refund request letters from insurance carriers
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participating in quality improvement initiatives and contributing to the development of departmental policies and procedures
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and regulatory changes, applying this knowledge to improve patient account processes and outcomes
- Collaborate with other departments, including patient access and health information management, to ensure seamless and efficient patient account processing
- Identify and escalate complex patient account issues to senior management, providing detailed analysis and recommendations for resolution
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including patients, families, and healthcare providers
What We Are Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with hospital insurance denials and follow-up, or work comp
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex patient account processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to accurately process patient accounts and resolve credit balances
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in electronic health records and patient accounting systems
- Ability to work remotely, with a reliable internet connection and a dedicated workspace
Nice to Have
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field
- Certification in patient account management, or a related field
- Experience with revenue cycle management, including patient access and health information management
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and ICD-10
- Experience with electronic health records and patient accounting systems, including EPIC and Cerner
