About the Role
The Payroll Analyst I role at Republic Services is a critical position that involves managing and analyzing payroll data for unionized employees. This role requires a strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements and the ability to interpret and apply their terms accurately. The Payroll Analyst I will work closely with various teams, including HR Management, Total Rewards, and cross-functional payroll teams, to ensure compliance with contracted deadlines and to maintain accurate payroll records.As a key member of the payroll team, the analyst will be responsible for preparing and analyzing union health and welfare, and pension contribution calculations, as well as maintaining and reporting accurate union dues deductions. This role also involves auditing payroll cycles to ensure accuracy and compliance with various regulations, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The analyst will be expected to collaborate with other teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and to provide support for payroll system testing and configuration. With a focus on garnishments, this role requires meticulous attention to detail and a thorough understanding of payroll laws and regulations.
What You Will Do
- Review and interpret Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) ratifications and apply as needed to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
- Prepare and analyze union health and welfare, and pension contribution calculations, and monthly reporting to ensure compliance with contracted deadlines.
- Maintain, analyze, and report accurate union dues deductions as instructed by local unions.
- Prepare and remit contributions for union 401K reporting on a weekly basis.
- Audit payroll cycles to maintain accuracy of various deductions and transactions, including retro calculations, union dues deductions, and FLSA OT premiums.
- Process special payments in compliance with collective bargaining agreements, including vacation buybacks, boot allowances, safety, and other union bonuses.
- Collaborate closely with HR Management, Total Rewards, HRIS, Field Management, and other cross-functional payroll teams.
- Prepare payroll reports as requested by management or other teams.
- Participate in knowledge transfer to other team members and support the team as needed.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including payroll system testing and configuration.
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll, finance, or a related field, with a focus on multi-state payroll processing.
- Basic knowledge of the regular rate of pay calculation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- Experience with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, with emphasis on pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is preferred.
- Experience with payroll applications, such as ADP, Lawson, Ceridian, and Kronos.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with various teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Workday or similar Human Capital Management (HCM) systems.
- Knowledge of union payrolls and collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience with payroll system implementation or configuration.
- Certification in payroll or a related field, such as the Certified Payroll Manager (CPM).
