About the Role
The PED/PER Certification Manager role at BSI is a critical position that involves managing the development, implementation, and future business activities related to the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU (PED) and the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations (PESR) SI 2016 as amended. This role is pivotal in providing technical expertise on a wide range of pressure equipment, supporting both inspection and certification activities. The successful candidate will work closely with various teams within BSI to maximize business opportunities for the PED/PESR, ensuring that all services are planned and implemented efficiently to meet customer requirements.Day-to-day, the role entails a combination of technical, managerial, and strategic responsibilities. This includes conducting inspection activities for a variety of pressure equipment under PED/PESR, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. The role also involves undertaking audit activities as part of BSI's certification processes, which are crucial for maintaining the integrity and trust in the certification process.
What You Will Do
- Manage the development and implementation of services related to PED/PESR, ensuring they meet commercial, technical, and strategic criteria.
- Liaise and coordinate with other parts of BSI to achieve and maximize business opportunities for the PED/PESR.
- Conduct inspection activities for a wide range of pressure equipment under PED/PESR, ensuring each element of the service is planned and implemented efficiently.
- Conduct PED/PESR compliance audits at customer sites, alone or as part of a team, to ensure adherence to standards and regulations.
- Assist in the control of BSI's inspection business, helping to train staff and ensure that all inspection activities are conducted to the highest standards.
- Provide technical support and expertise to internal stakeholders and external clients on matters related to PED/PESR.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in pressure equipment regulations and standards, applying this knowledge to improve BSI's services and maintain its competitive edge.
- Participate in the development of new services and standards, contributing to BSI's growth and relevance in the industry.
- Collaborate with the training team to develop and deliver training programs for staff and clients on PED/PESR and related topics.
What We Are Looking For
- A degree in Engineering or equivalent, with at least 5 years of experience in a senior technical or management role in a pressure-related industry.
- In-depth knowledge of design and manufacturing codes, materials, manufacture (including welding), inspection (including NDT), pressure testing, and certification with respect to pressure vessels, piping, pressure accessories, safety accessories, and assemblies thereof.
- Commercial and business awareness of pressure equipment manufacture and inspection, including an understanding of the market dynamics and customer needs.
- Detailed technical understanding of the PED/PESR, pressure equipment codes/standards, and the products, practices, and industries affected.
- Proven communication and presentation skills, particularly in a technically complex field, with the ability to train and present to diverse audiences.
- Experience in project management, including the development and implementation of new services or standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical information and make sound judgments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a collaborative approach to achieving common goals.
- Familiarity with quality management systems, including ISO 9001, and experience with certification processes such as ISO/IEC 17065.
Nice to Have
- Experience in a similar role within a certification body or a regulatory environment.
- Knowledge of other relevant standards and regulations, such as those related to machinery or electrical equipment.
- Certification in auditing or inspection, such as ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or equivalent.
- Experience with training and development programs, including the creation of training materials and the delivery of training sessions.
- Fluency in more than one language, given BSI's global scope and client base.
