About the team OpenAI’s People team hires, engages, and retains world-class talent who will safely build and deploy AGI that benefits all humanity. The People Analytics team partners closely with People Business Partners, People Systems, Total Rewards, Recruiting, and Data Platform teams to provide rigorously validated insights that inform leadership decisions, organization design and operational cadence. About the role We’re looking for an Analyst to join the People Analytics team as an automation expert. This role is hands-on, technical and analytical: you’ll build reliable datasets, prepare, audit and automate reporting for leadership reviews, and help scale reporting frameworks across the People data stack. You should have a strong technical background (it doesn’t have to be HR/People domain experience), be comfortable working with data stakeholders across a People org, and be excited to learn and grow in the People Analytics Domain. Your Responsibilities: - Leverage our engineering stack, be creative and automate manual data analytics and reporting processes.
- Conduct data gathering, reporting and analysis needs for Executive Business Reviews and ad-hoc deep dives.
- Own preparation of reporting and slide-ready data exports for Executive Business Reviews.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders (People Systems, Finance, Data Platform, Recruiting Operations and more) to prepare, validate, and document datasets used for People reporting.
- Help build and automate recurring reporting based on existing frameworks and stakeholder feedback.
- Partner with data warehouse engineering and data stakeholders to improve accuracy, freshness, lineage, and robustness of core People datasets.
- Develop ad hoc data pipelines and rigorous data validations to support high-stakes executive reporting and deep-dive analyses. We’re Seeking: - 2–4 years in an analytics role (data analysis, data engineering, business intelligence, consulting or similar) at a high-growth organization.
- High performing and highly dependable, comfortable operating with rigor in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail.
- Strong SQL expertise. You will write production queries, build ad-hoc ETLs and conduct data validations as needed.
- Comfortable cleaning, joining, and validating multi-source datasets and communicating data limitations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; experience preparing slide-ready charts/tables for leadership audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with non-technical stakeholders and translate business questions into data requirements.
- Strong Python and automation experience is a plus.
- Prior experience with HRIS/ATS/payroll data is a plus but not required. Workplace & Location This role is based in our San Francisco office, and we aren’t considering remote applications at this time. - To demonstrate proficiency in Adjust and Excel, prepare examples of automation projects you've worked on, such as building a dashboard to track employee engagement metrics or creating a script to automate reporting tasks, and be ready to walk the interviewer through your process.
- Familiarize yourself with OpenAI's People Analytics team's publicly available reports and research, and think about how you can contribute to their mission of providing rigorously validated insights to inform leadership decisions, highlighting your ability to understand the company's goals and values.
