About the Role

The People Partner role at A-Players is a unique opportunity for an experienced HR professional to join a growing startup and make a significant impact on the company's talent and performance. As a People Partner, you will be responsible for managing the growth, performance, and wellbeing of the Business Associate (BA) team, which is embedded with founders and C-level executives of early-stage US tech startups. Your primary focus will be on providing support, coaching, and development opportunities to the BA team, ensuring they have the skills and resources needed to succeed in their roles.

A-Players is a bootstrapped talent and management company that has been in the market for over 7 years, with a proven track record of placing high-performing BAs with top startups. The company is committed to hiring only the best talent and providing a supportive and dynamic work environment that fosters growth and development. As a People Partner, you will be an integral part of this process, working closely with the BA team, founders, and C-level executives to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to address them.

The role requires a strong understanding of the startup environment and the ability to navigate its unique challenges. You will need to be adaptable, flexible, and able to think on your feet, as well as possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. If you have experience working in a startup or accelerator environment, you will be well-suited to this role, which offers the opportunity to make a real impact on the company's success.

What You Will Do

  • Run regular 1:1s with BAs to track progress, surface blockers, and support goal setting
  • Collect and translate client feedback into concrete individual development actions
  • Build development plans and follow through on their implementation
  • Catch early signs of performance or motivation issues and respond with structured coaching
  • Document key insights, status changes, and performance trends in internal systems
  • Support onboarding and help new BAs integrate faster
  • Contribute to internal improvement projects, such as workshops, knowledge base updates, and process refinements
  • Provide feedback and coaching to BAs to help them grow and develop in their roles
  • Collaborate with founders and C-level executives to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to address them
  • Develop and implement programs to support the wellbeing and engagement of the BA team

What We Are Looking For

  • Background in HR partnership, people development, coaching, or talent management
  • Experience mentoring people navigating early-stage company realities
  • Ability to give direct feedback without making it personal
  • Ability to distinguish between someone who needs direction and someone who needs support
  • Comfortable working without a perfect process and building structure as you go
  • Organized enough to document well and track what matters without getting lost in admin
  • Confident written and spoken English (B2+)
  • Familiarity with tools like Notion, Airtable, Claude, and Google Workspace
  • Experience working in a startup or accelerator environment
  • Strong understanding of the startup ecosystem and its unique challenges

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with early-stage tech startups
  • Knowledge of the startup funding process and the role of VCs
  • Familiarity with startup accelerators and incubators
  • Experience with performance management and development planning
  • Certification in HR or a related field

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive pay with annual performance reviews
  • Unlimited vacation and sick days, encouraged to take time off to recharge
  • Full access to premium productivity and AI tools, plus our internal library
  • A small, high-standards team that moves fast and takes care of its people
  • Opportunity to work with a growing startup and make a real impact on its success
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and mentorship
  • Access to a network of experienced professionals in the startup ecosystem

How to Stand Out

  • Be prepared to provide specific examples of your experience working with early-stage companies and supporting high-performing teams.
  • Showcase your ability to create development plans and provide feedback that is actionable and supportive.
  • Highlight your understanding of the startup ecosystem and its unique challenges, as well as your ability to navigate these challenges.
  • Demonstrate your ability to work independently and build structure as you go, with limited oversight or direction.
  • Be prepared to discuss your experience working with founders and C-level executives, and your ability to communicate effectively with these stakeholders.
  • Consider creating a portfolio or examples of your work, such as development plans or feedback sessions, to showcase your skills and experience.
  • Be prepared to negotiate your salary and benefits, and do your research on the market rate for similar roles in the industry.
