About the Role
The Photographer role at the University of Florida is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic communications team and contribute to the creation of high-quality visual content. As a professional photographer, you will be responsible for producing compelling visual stories that highlight the university's programs, faculty, and impact. You will work independently and collaboratively to plan and execute photo assignments, using advanced photography and digital media techniques to capture high-resolution images for editorial, promotional, and public-facing use.The communications team at the University of Florida is dedicated to amplifying the reach of scientific knowledge and showcasing the university's expertise. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to work with faculty, staff, and communications professionals to plan and execute assignments, ensuring that visual content aligns with the university's branding and storytelling goals.
The role requires frequent travel throughout South Florida, as well as occasional evening and weekend work for events. You will need to be able to work in outdoor environments, including heat and humidity, and have the ability to maintain and organize a large-scale digital archive of images.
What You Will Do
- Capture high-resolution images for editorial, promotional, and public-facing use across print and digital platforms
- Plan and execute photo assignments independently or collaboratively
- Determine composition, lighting, and camera settings to achieve desired visual outcomes
- Produce occasional high-quality video content to support storytelling efforts
- Edit RAW images using Adobe Creative Suite and related software
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and communications teams to plan and execute assignments
- Ensure visual content aligns with UF/IFAS branding and storytelling goals
- Maintain and organize a large-scale digital archive of images
- Apply metadata, manage file storage systems, and ensure long-term accessibility
- Upload and manage image galleries in internal databases
- Retrieve and distribute visual assets upon request
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and studio organization
What We Are Looking For
- A high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience
- Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience
- Professional photojournalism, studio, or public relations photography experience as evidenced by a portfolio of published work in print or online publications
- Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and other digital imaging technology and software applications
- Technical knowledge of photography and digital camera equipment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to travel frequently throughout South Florida
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, including heat and humidity
