About the Role

As a Physician Coder specializing in Cardiology at MedKoder, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and efficient coding for health systems, providers, and payers. Your expertise will be crucial in maximizing reimbursement for professional services, including evaluation and management, diagnostics, surgeries, and procedures. What You Will Do

  • Review and accurately code all professional services, including Cardiology IR/CV surgery and E/M cases, to ensure timely and precise reimbursement.
  • Prioritize daily duties, multitask, and communicate effectively to complete assigned tasks and meet production and quality goals.
  • Attend conference calls as necessary to provide coding feedback and insights.
  • Stay updated on all coding guidelines, including specialty-specific guidelines, and maintain your professional credentials.
  • Participate in coding department and education meetings to contribute to the team's knowledge base and professional development.
  • Communicate with leadership on coding challenges, documentation issues, or emerging trends that could impact coding practices.
  • Work independently to research coding scenarios, ensuring adherence to internal coding policies and external guidelines.
  • Expand your coding skill set into other specialties as necessary, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and protect it in accordance with MedKoder's policies and legal requirements.

What We Are Looking For

  • A High School diploma is required; an Associate or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Successful completion of at least one AHIMA or AAPC-certified program, with an active and valid professional credential (e.g., CCS-P, CPC), is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of physician coding experience, with at least 3 years focusing on Cardiology IR and Vascular coding, is required.
  • Experience with coding for various procedures, including arteriovenous fistulograms, central venous catheter placements, and embolization procedures, is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and other coding and data analysis tools is necessary.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
  • A CIRCC credential is required for this role.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in Interventional Cardiology, including TAVR/TAVI, TMVR, TTVR/TTVI, and TEE performed in conjunction with structural heart procedures, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Cardiac Surgery, including CABG, heart transplant procedures, and other major cardiothoracic procedures, is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Pediatric/Congenital cardiology and coding for congenital heart disease procedures can be beneficial.
