About the Role
The Platform Engineer role at Supabase is a critical component of the company's Compute Team. As a platform engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing cloud-agnostic abstractions over compute, networking, and storage layers. Your primary goal will be to ensure that Supabase's infrastructure is portable across multiple cloud environments, allowing the company to scale efficiently and effectively. You will work closely with the product and infrastructure teams to audit existing infrastructure components, identify cloud-specific dependencies, and build a structured migration backlog.The success of Supabase's platform relies heavily on its ability to adapt to changing cloud landscapes. As a platform engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the company's multicloud strategy and ensuring that its infrastructure is future-proof. Your expertise in Kubernetes, Pulumi, and other infrastructure-as-code tooling will be essential in maintaining and evolving Supabase's workload orchestration.
What You Will Do
- Audit existing infrastructure components to identify cloud-specific dependencies
- Design and implement cloud-agnostic abstractions over compute, networking, and storage layers
- Maintain and evolve Kubernetes-based workload orchestration to run portably across cloud environments
- Collaborate with platform and product engineering teams to ensure new work is built with multi-cloud portability in mind
- Contribute to architecture decisions around target cloud environments and colocated infrastructure options
- Develop and implement migration strategies for existing infrastructure components
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new infrastructure components
- Participate in the design and implementation of automated testing and deployment scripts
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure-related issues
What We Are Looking For
- 3-5+ years of experience in platform or infrastructure engineering
- Experience with Kubernetes and comfortable running it across multiple environments
- Familiarity with Pulumi or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling
- Experience with cloud abstraction, portability, or re-platforming initiatives
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Experience working in async or globally distributed teams
- Passion for solving real-world problems for developers
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and move quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, including security, networking, and storage
- Experience with Postgres or similar relational databases
Nice to Have
- Experience with multicloud environments, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Familiarity with edge computing or serverless architectures
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
- Knowledge of containerization using Docker or similar technologies
