Job Description
About the Role
The Plumber role at Royal Caribbean International is a unique opportunity to work on a cruise ship, installing and maintaining plumbing systems that transport water, waste, gases, and hot liquids. As a key member of the ship's technical team, the Plumber will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all plumbing systems, including sanitation, fresh water, seawater, rainwater, and sewage treatment systems. The successful candidate will have experience working with a variety of plumbing materials, including PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper, and will be able to read and understand blueprints and drawings.The Plumber will work closely with other members of the technical team, including electricians, engineers, and carpenters, to ensure that all systems are functioning properly and that any issues are addressed quickly and efficiently. The role will involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and in a fast-paced environment, so the successful candidate will need to be physically fit and able to work well under pressure.
What You Will Do
- Install, repair, and maintain pipes, tubes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures
- Respond to and diagnose plumbing emergencies, such as broken drainage lines, clogged drains, and faulty appliances
- Install and maintain water supply systems and plumbing equipment in bathrooms, galleys, bars, and pantries
- Operate and maintain RO (reverse osmosis) and STP (sewage treatment plant) systems
- Repair sanitation systems and perform routine inspections of plumbing and drainage systems
- Read work orders and maintain records of production status
- Use clear, concise, and professional communication in person, over the radio, and in written format
- Demonstrate effective teamwork and collaboration, and time management skills
- Maintain an orderly and clean work area, with all tools in good repair
- Adhere to all Company policies regarding PPE and Chemical Management
What We Are Looking For
- A High School Diploma or basic education equivalency
- Experience working in a plumbing role, preferably in a maritime or cruise ship environment
- Experience with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper
- Valid license or certificate(s) in the area of technical specialty
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of Management and Team Members
- Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse international environment
- Ability to maintain focus, work with strict deadlines, multitask, and be flexible and adaptable
- Language Requirements: Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with Guests, Team Members, Contractors, and Vendors
Nice to Have
- Experience working with gas and liquid heating systems
- Experience with welding (gas, electric, TIG, and MIG)
- Experience with machinist work
- Familiarity with cruise ship operations and systems
