About the Role

The role of an Independent Medical Reviewer at Managed Medical Review Organization (MMRO) is a unique opportunity for Board-Certified Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physicians to apply their expertise in a flexible, remote setting. As a subcontracted reviewer, you will be part of a network of professionals dedicated to providing objective, evidence-based medical peer reviews nationwide. Your day-to-day activities will involve conducting comprehensive and objective medical chart reviews, utilizing your knowledge and experience to produce clear, concise determinations that are well-supported by evidence.

You will work independently, setting your own schedule and case volume, but will also collaborate with an experienced and supportive clinical and operations team. What You Will Do

  • Conduct comprehensive and objective medical chart reviews with honesty and integrity, utilizing your expertise in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
  • Produce determinations that are clear, concise, and well-supported by evidence, following MMRO’s review templates and ensuring all required elements are complete and accurate.
  • Communicate findings in a professional manner using appropriate language and grammar, both in written reports and in any necessary discussions with the MMRO team.
  • Complete assigned reviews within specified deadlines, managing your time effectively to meet the needs of MMRO and its clients.
  • Respond promptly to communications from MMRO staff, maintaining open and clear lines of communication.
  • Review and comply with corporate training materials and review standards, staying up-to-date on any changes or updates to procedures.
  • Be receptive to constructive feedback from MMRO’s Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, and Clinical Staff, using this feedback to continually improve your performance and the quality of your reviews.
  • Contribute ideas for process improvement and quality enhancement, helping MMRO to maintain its position as a leader in the field of independent medical reviews.

What We Are Looking For

  • Current, non-restricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory, specifically a California medical state license.
  • Maintained certification by a board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Minimum of five (5) years full-time equivalent experience providing direct clinical care to patients, with current clinical experience within the past three (3) years.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports and communicate complex medical information effectively.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, managing your time and workload to meet deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and the ability to learn and utilize MMRO’s review templates and systems.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in conducting medical reviews or a similar role, with knowledge of the principles and practices of independent medical review.
  • Familiarity with URAC-accredited organizations and the standards and guidelines that apply to this field.
  • Experience working in a remote or flexible work environment, with the ability to self-motivate and manage your workload effectively.
