About the Role
The Pricing Strategist will play a critical role in shaping the pricing frameworks, commercial policies, and decision principles that govern Openai's most consequential commercial decisions. This involves developing monetization frameworks, analyzing tradeoffs, and supporting high-impact decisions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working closely with senior leaders across GTM and Finance to define the overall pricing strategy for the sales-managed segment.As part of the Pricing & Monetization team, the Pricing Strategist will partner closely with GTM, Finance, and Product to design pricing models, packaging, and commercial strategies that support adoption, growth, and long-term scaling of the business. The role demands strategic thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and precision in execution.
The Pricing Strategist will report to the Head of Go-to-Market Pricing and will be responsible for driving the development of commercial pricing decisions. This includes designing commercial constructs, such as commitments, incentives, and risk-sharing approaches, that address customer needs while supporting healthy unit economics and long-term growth.
What You Will Do
- Develop frameworks and strategies that guide commercial pricing decisions
- Design commercial constructs, including commitments, incentives, and risk-sharing approaches
- Build and evolve discounting frameworks, guardrails, and approval principles
- Partner closely with Sales, GTM Strategy, Finance, Legal, and Product to develop executable proposals
- Resolve complex commercial questions and provide support for high-impact decisions
- Analyze tradeoffs and communicate complex pricing choices in simple, decision-oriented language
- Develop and maintain relationships with senior leaders across GTM and Finance
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in pricing and monetization
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and effective execution of pricing strategies
- Provide input on pricing-related matters, such as pricing model design and commercial policy development
What We Are Looking For
- 6+ years of experience in a strategy role, such as consulting or business operations
- 3+ years of expertise in pricing and monetization, with experience in designing discounting frameworks and commercial constructs
- Deep experience with enterprise software or technology commercial models, with familiarity with usage- or consumption-based pricing
- Excellent quantitative problem-solving skills, with the ability to build decision-useful models and distinguish precision from false certainty
- Strong commercial judgment, with the ability to exercise sound judgment across customer value, competitive dynamics, economics, and precedent risk
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and hold a clear point of view while remaining collaborative, curious, and open to new evidence
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex pricing choices in simple, decision-oriented language
- Ability to operate well in a fast-moving environment with incomplete information, balancing speed, rigor, and sound escalation judgment
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI or machine learning technologies
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems
- Certification in pricing or monetization, such as a Certified Pricing Professional (CPP) designation
