About the Role

The Pricing Strategist role at Openai is a critical position that requires a unique blend of analytical, strategic, and communication skills. As a key member of the Pricing and Monetization team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing pricing strategies that drive business growth and customer adoption. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, GTM, and Finance, to ensure that pricing approaches align with product value, roadmap, and commercial motions.

The Pricing and Monetization team at Openai is responsible for designing pricing models, packaging, and commercial strategies that support the adoption, growth, and long-term scaling of the business. As a Pricing Strategist, you will play a key role in shaping the company's pricing strategy, working with senior leaders to define pricing approaches, improve commercial decision-making, and bring more rigor to how we monetize our offerings.

The role will report to the Head of Product Pricing for Chat and Codex, and will require close collaboration with senior leaders across Product, GTM, and Finance. You will need to be comfortable building monetization frameworks, analyzing tradeoffs, and supporting high-impact decisions.

What You Will Do

  • Develop the pricing strategy for a subset of Openai's products, including packaging, price architecture, discount logic, and monetization guardrails
  • Develop innovative commercial constructs to better serve Openai's customers
  • Partner with Product, GTM, and Finance leaders to ensure pricing aligns with product value, roadmap, commercial motions, and overall growth plans
  • Develop clear recommendations that are grounded in customer preferences, product value, and market dynamics
  • Establish lightweight but effective pricing governance, including decision frameworks, approval processes, and performance tracking
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that pricing approaches are aligned with business objectives
  • Analyze customer data and market trends to inform pricing decisions
  • Develop and maintain pricing models, including forecasting and scenario planning
  • Communicate pricing strategies and recommendations to senior leaders and stakeholders

What We Are Looking For

  • 6+ years of prior experience in a strategy role, such as consulting, business operations, or pricing and monetization
  • 3+ years of expertise in pricing and monetization, with a strong track record of developing successful monetization strategies
  • Deep familiarity with various monetization models, including seat-based subscriptions and consumptive pricing models
  • Ability to balance customer value, product strategy, and commercial outcomes in a thoughtful way
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and make informed decisions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence senior cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong track record of developing successful monetization strategies, across self-serve and 'sold' sales motions
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-ambiguity environment, with the ability to roll up your sleeves and get things done

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with AI or machine learning products
  • Familiarity with Excel and other data analysis tools
  • Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment
  • Certification in pricing or monetization, such as the Certified Pricing Professional (CPP) designation
