About the Role
As a Principal 2D Artist at Happy Hour Games, you will be responsible for leading the artistic vision of our games, driving the visual quality bar, and ensuring that all 2D assets meet the highest standards. This is a unique opportunity to work on a game that is pushing the boundaries of the gaming industry, with a focus on creating an immersive and engaging player experience. You will be working closely with our team of talented artists, designers, and engineers to ensure that the game's visuals are not only stunning but also support the gameplay and user experience.The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve creating high-quality 2D game assets, including characters, environments, and props, as well as guiding and mentoring junior artists to ensure that their work meets the required standards. You will also be responsible for establishing and refining art pipelines, workflows, and standards to improve efficiency and scalability.

What You Will Do
- Create high-quality 2D game assets, including characters, environments, and props, that meet the required standards
- Lead and guide junior artists to ensure that their work meets the required standards
- Establish and refine art pipelines, workflows, and standards to improve efficiency and scalability
- Collaborate with designers and engineers to ensure that the game's visuals support the gameplay and user experience
- Use AI tools to accelerate ideation, iteration, and production
- Drive design decisions that align with user needs and improve clarity and player experience
- Create benchmarks for 2D assets to ensure consistency and quality across the game
- Provide feedback and guidance to junior artists to help them improve their skills and knowledge
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments, and apply this knowledge to improve the game's visuals and overall quality
- Work closely with the product team to ensure that the game's visuals align with the overall product vision
What We Are Looking For
- At least 6 years of experience in 2D art or illustration, with a proven ability to deliver high-quality visuals
- Strong understanding of composition, hierarchy, and readability
- Strong design thinking, with the ability to create designs that improve clarity and player experience
- Deep understanding of target audiences and player behavior, with the ability to drive design decisions that align with user needs
- Deep understanding of the casual game market and player preferences
- Ability to mentor and guide other artists, with strong ownership and execution
- Hands-on ability to produce top-quality assets and lead by example
- Experience with game art pipelines, asset integration, and cross-functional collaboration
- Proficient in using AI tools to enhance ideation, iteration speed, and production efficiency
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with designers, engineers, and other stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Experience with game development software, such as Unity or Unreal Engine
- Knowledge of programming languages, such as C# or Java
- Experience with agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban
- Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration tools, such as Asana or Trello
