About the Role

The Principal Engineer is a critical leadership role at Iterable, responsible for driving the technical strategy, architectural coherence, and engineering excellence across several key product areas. This role acts as a bridge between high-level business goals and on-the-ground technical execution, ensuring the product is built correctly, efficiently, and with a long-term vision. The successful candidate will be a technical authority, providing expert guidance and data-driven recommendations to leadership and engineering teams.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the technical authority for multiple core product areas, ensuring all architectural decisions directly support the business objectives for those areas.
  • Establish and maintain organization-wide technical standards, architectural patterns, and coding best practices to ensure consistency, security, performance, and maintainability across all teams.
  • Support decision making by providing expert architectural guidance and data-driven recommendations to leadership and engineering teams, facilitating timely and sound technical decisions.
  • Directly mentor, guide, and lead the technical direction of the Tech Leads and senior engineers within the domains, fostering a high-performance engineering culture.
  • Oversee and approve key design documents and high-level architectural proposals, ensuring they adhere to organizational standards and contribute to the long-term architectural roadmap.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex technical challenges, actively supporting teams in overcoming significant architectural hurdles or design issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive technical excellence, balance immediate execution needs with long-term health and scalability of the product's architecture, and understand business and customer needs.
  • Develop and maintain a long-term architectural roadmap, ensuring the product's architecture is aligned with the company's vision and goals.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in technical leadership and architecture.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing scalable, secure, and maintainable architectures for complex software systems.
  • Strong technical skills in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++.
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Strong understanding of business and customer needs, with the ability to drive technical decisions that align with company objectives.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions.

  • Experience with AI-powered customer engagement platforms.
  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and data science concepts.
  • Familiarity with Excel and data analysis tools.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
