Principal Product Designer (Container Platform)

About the Role

The container platform is a critical component of Docker's product suite, and this role will have a significant impact on the company's success. You will be working with a talented team of designers, engineers, and product managers who are passionate about creating exceptional user experiences. As a Principal Product Designer, you will be expected to bring a high level of expertise and leadership to the team, mentoring and coaching junior designers and contributing to the development of the design practice at Docker.

What You Will Do

• Own the end-to-end design for the container platform, working closely with cross-functional teams to build a shared product vision
• Distill complex developer workflows into elegant, opinionated solutions that shape the product's direction and growth
• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to develop and iterate on design concepts
• Use AI tools actively throughout the design process for prototyping, synthesis, and iteration
• Work across stakeholders to build consensus on a shared product vision
• Constructively challenge existing approaches and push for better solutions
• Mentor and coach members of the product design team
• Partner with senior leadership to design strategy and drive business growth
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of developer workflows and the needs of Docker's users
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to drive design decisions
• Collaborate with the design team to develop and maintain a consistent design language and standards
• Participate in design critiques and provide feedback to other designers

What We Are Looking For

• Proven track record influencing product direction and strategy with actionable, research-informed design
• Deep experience designing for developer tools, platforms, or infrastructure products
• Solid understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods with an ability to synthesize and communicate quickly
• Fluency with prototyping, quick visualizations, and iterative development
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technology domains and develop strong opinions about them
• Excellent project management, communication, and presentation skills
• Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring product designers
• Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and how to apply them in a complex technical context
• Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment and collaborate with distributed teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and rationale

Nice to Have

• Experience with containerization and cloud-native technologies
• Knowledge of AI and machine learning principles and how to apply them in design
• Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Cloud
• Experience with agile development methodologies and how to integrate design into the development process
• Knowledge of accessibility principles and how to design for inclusivity
