About the Role
The Prior Authorization Technician plays a vital role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary medications and treatments in a timely manner. This involves managing the prior authorization process, coordinating with healthcare providers, and communicating effectively with patients and staff. As a key member of the pharmacy team, the Prior Authorization Technician must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in pharmacy operations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The Prior Authorization Technician will be an integral part of the team, working closely with pharmacists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
What You Will Do
- Submit prior authorizations on behalf of physicians and follow up on submitted requests
- Monitor each prior authorization through the process until approved or denied, and inform patients, staff, and clinics as indicated
- Assist clinicians in obtaining Celgene authorization and confirmation numbers
- Review and initiate prior authorization appeal services, including first-level appeal reviews
- Coordinate appeal reviews with Medical Directors of pharmacy benefit managers and/or peer-to-peer interviews as required
- Provide backup support to pharmacy staff, including PAP, SP follow-ups, BV, and claims adjudication as needed
- Keep up-to-date with all applicable training and education for maintenance of permit
- Train staff on PA processes and procedures
- Handle incoming and outgoing calls/emails to patients, routing calls to appropriate staff as needed
- Answer patient/clinic questions regarding delivery status, Rx updates, and other inquiries
- Schedule deliveries and follow up to ensure orders are being processed efficiently
What We Are Looking For
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education required
- Minimum of two years' experience in Retail/Specialty/Hospital Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and attention to detail required
- Analysis and critical thinking skills, including solid problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills
- Effective communication skills, including oral, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential material and emotionally charged matters
- Strong customer focus and ability to build an engaging culture of quality and performance effectiveness
- Self-motivated and self-starter with the ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
- Pharmacy technician registration with the Florida Department of Health in good standing required
