About the Role

Product Counsel for Stripe's Terminal team is a critical role that involves managing the legal and regulatory aspects of product development. As a key advisor to the product, engineering, and partnerships teams, you will work on diverse matters that span financial services, business processes, and technology. Your expertise will help expand Stripe's product offerings and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate is a team player who is passionate about Stripe's mission and has a strong understanding of complex technical, commercial, and regulatory problems. You will be working closely with various teams, including engineering, compliance, business development, and marketing, to provide legal guidance on product development and commercialization.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as product counsel for the Stripe Terminal team, helping to expand product offerings
  • Counsel the Stripe product team on regulatory, consumer protection, marketing, intellectual property, and data privacy issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, compliance, business development, and marketing
  • Work closely with colleagues across the Stripe legal team to clear key issues impacting the work of members of the team
  • Help build scalable and effective processes for legal review and launch of new products
  • Draft, review, and update foundational documents for product and service offerings
  • Stay up-to-date on U.S. and international laws and regulations dealing with privacy, data security, consumer protection, financial services, and marketing
  • Participate as a proactive business partner to senior managers and build a trusted advisor relationship
  • Develop deep subject matter expertise of the Stripe Terminal products and serve as a legal team member point of contact for escalations and questions

What We Are Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer working on complex regulatory or technology matters
  • Passion for technology and ability to understand complex business models and product use cases quickly
  • Strong communication and project management skills with a strict attention to detail
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with technology companies on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships

Nice to Have

  • Experience with financial services and payments technology
  • Knowledge of U.S. and international laws and regulations dealing with privacy, data security, consumer protection, and marketing
  • Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment
