Job Description

About the Role

The Product Data and Labeling Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, structure, and flow of product data and labeling across Hire Overseas' growing food distribution operation. This role sits at the intersection of operations, compliance, and supply chain, requiring a deep understanding of product information, barcodes, and packaging specs. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with suppliers, internal teams, and creative partners to maintain data integrity and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and experience in managing product data, labeling, and barcoding. You will be responsible for owning and maintaining product barcoding, managing product data through GDSN, and ensuring product identifiers are accurate and current across internal and customer systems.

What You Will Do

  • Own and maintain product barcoding, including UPC, EAN, and GS1 standards
  • Manage product data through GDSN with familiarity or hands-on experience using GDSN-128
  • Ensure product identifiers are accurate, current, and aligned across internal and customer systems
  • Support new item setup, product changes, and line extensions
  • Review, approve, and control all product labels and carton markings prior to production
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal standards and customer requirements
  • Maintain version control for labels, cartons, and packaging assets
  • Coordinate packaging updates with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Create, update, and maintain detailed product specification sheets
  • Ensure specs reflect current formulations, packaging, coding, and regulatory requirements
  • Act as the source of truth for product specifications across teams and partners
  • Work closely with suppliers to collect and validate product data and artwork
  • Partner with internal operations, quality, and supply chain teams to maintain data integrity
  • Collaborate with a graphic designer or creative partner on private label packaging updates
  • Respond to customer inquiries, audits, and internal reviews related to labeling and data

What We Are Looking For

  • 3 to 6+ years of experience in product data management, labeling, or packaging roles
  • Strong working knowledge of GS1 standards with experience using GDSN
  • Familiarity with or experience supporting GDSN-128 barcoding protocols
  • Experience creating and managing product specification sheets
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication with internal and external partners
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with data management tools and software

  • Experience with regulatory compliance and auditing
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards
