About the Role
As a Product Engineer at Counterpart Group, you will be responsible for driving outcomes and owning problems. You will work closely with stakeholders, partners, and customers to iron out requirements and leverage AI for implementation. Your primary goal will be to verify the end-to-end result and iterate until you move the needle. The role entails a deep understanding of the intersection of technology and business, with a focus on managing and professional liability. You will be part of a team that is redefining the insurance industry through the use of advanced AI and deep insurance expertise.
Counterpart Group's platform is designed to proactively assess, mitigate, and manage risk, making it an exciting opportunity for product engineers who want to make a real impact. The company is backed by A-rated carriers and trusted by brokers nationwide, providing a solid foundation for growth and innovation.
What You Will Do
- Own problems and drive outcomes, taking accountability for the outcome and talking directly to users, stakeholders, and peers to discover the problem.
- Translate business intents into functional requirements that engineers and agents can build against, determining where human judgment is non-negotiable and where AI can augment or act autonomously.
- Build production-quality code across the stack, including Python, Django, AWS, React, and PostgreSQL, and direct agents and review their output with domain depth.
- Catch what agents miss across the functional and non-functional bar, including correctness, edge cases, performance, security, testability, and readability.
- Evaluate and improve agent output regularly, tracking failure modes and refining the prompts and patterns that lift the quality ceiling over time.
- Run projects that span other Product Engineers and agents, coordinating work, managing dependencies, and keeping things moving without micromanaging.
- Contribute to architectural decisions, bringing options and alternatives, not objections, and knowing when the elegant solution is the wrong call for a startup moving fast.
- Verify and iterate, surfacing delivery risks early and bringing solutions, not just problems, and keeping stakeholders informed without turning every risk into a meeting.
- Monitor services in production, owning the signal, debugging, and fixing what breaks, and participating in support rotations.
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of experience building production web applications across the full stack, with demonstrated end-to-end ownership and a track record of taking something from idea to deployment and working.
- Proficiency in developing with AI tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, or OpenAI Codex, and the drive to stay ahead of how AI development practices are evolving.
- Strong understanding of Excel and its applications in a business setting.
- Experience with Python, Django, AWS, React, and PostgreSQL, and the ability to build production-quality code across the stack.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to talk directly to users, stakeholders, and peers to discover the problem and translate business intents into functional requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to own problems and drive outcomes, and a customer-centric mindset.

- Experience with insurance technology or a related field, and a deep understanding of the intersection of technology and business.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate and improve agent output regularly, and track failure modes.
