Job Description
## About the Role As a product engineer at Linear, you will be part of a small, focused team that is shaping the future of product development. You will work closely with founders, product, and design teams to implement new concepts and ideas, building AI-powered functionality into the core of Linear. The company is committed to creating a culture of autonomy and individual responsibility, where engineers are empowered to take ownership of their work and drive results.
The role is based in North America, and you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere within this region. Linear values deep focus and async collaboration, with intentional moments to connect in person through team off-sites, optional co-working, and occasional travel. This approach allows engineers to work efficiently and effectively, while also maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Linear has become the platform of choice for over 25,000 companies, including OpenAI, Coinbase, and Ramp, to plan, build, and ship their products. The company is founded on the principles of relentless focus, fast execution, and a deep care for software craftsmanship. As a product engineer, you will be part of a team that is passionate about building high-quality software that meets the needs of its users.
## What You Will Do - Work closely with founders, product, and design teams to implement new concepts and ideas - Build AI-powered functionality into the core of Linear - Update the collaborative content editor used across all internal surfaces - Build new user-facing features with beautiful and scalable UI components - Obsessively improve application performance - Refine software development processes to keep the team operating at high velocity - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements - Develop and maintain high-quality, well-documented code - Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the overall codebase - Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies - Contribute to the development of the company's technical vision and strategy
## What We Are Looking For - 2-5 years of experience building customer-facing products at a software company with a high engineering bar - Strong React and TypeScript fundamentals, with experience across the full stack (Browser technologies, Node, GraphQL, PostgreSQL) - Track record of driving complex, end-to-end features with visible impact on the product - Product sensibility: you care about UX, speed, and polish, and you push back when something doesn't feel right - Comfortable working without heavy PM overhead; you can help shape the problem, not just implement a solution - High ownership mentality: self-directed, full-lifecycle builder who takes a feature from idea to shipped - Experience working in a remote, async-first environment with a lean, high-output team - Strong communication and collaboration skills
## Nice to Have - Experience with Agentic workflow systems, Temporal, and Redis - Familiarity with Google Cloud and k8s - Knowledge of design principles and human-centered design - Experience with data analysis and metrics-driven decision making
## Benefits and Perks - Competitive salary and equity - Employee-friendly equity terms, including early exercise in the US and extended exercise windows - Daily meal and coffee stipend on every workday - Paid co-working space or desk - Health coverage (based on country requirements) - 5 weeks paid vacation, plus local statutory holidays - 4 months paid parental leave - Paid month off after 4 years and every 2 years thereafter - Regular team events and off-sites - Remote-first with no required commute - Opportunities for professional growth and development - Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools

- Be prepared to discuss your approach to product development, including your experience with AI-powered functionality and collaborative content editors.
- Show a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and frameworks, such as Temporal and Redis.
