Job Description

About the Role

The Product Manager - AI role at Supabase is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead the development of AI tooling within the company's innovative platform. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for rethinking the product management paradigm in the context of AI-driven development, where most users are agents. This involves making strategic decisions about defaults, error messages, breaking changes, naming, deprecations, and documentation, with the understanding that these elements behave differently when an AI coding tool is involved.

The role entails a deep understanding of the Supabase platform, including the MCP server, agent skills, and evaluations that measure the effectiveness of these tools. You will own the problem statement and requirements behind every agent tooling bet, defining what needs to be built and why, capturing the evidence behind each decision, naming the constraints, and providing the team with a clear target to hit.

What You Will Do

  • Rethink product management approaches for AI-driven development, focusing on how AI coding tools interact with the platform.
  • Talk to customers across the spectrum, from indie developers to enterprise teams, to identify blockers and bring them back to the roadmap.
  • Own the MCP server, agent skills, and evaluations, making strategic decisions about their development and implementation.
  • Define what gets built, what gets deferred, and what gets cut, and defend these calls when stakeholders push back.
  • Set metrics for launch success before engineering starts, focusing on developer activation, task completion, and AI eval scores.
  • Track the impact of launches and use the data to sharpen future decisions.
  • Keep engineering, design, and leadership aligned on the roadmap, communicating dependencies early and ensuring stakeholders are pointed in the same direction.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the primitives developers need to build agent-native products.
  • Use AI coding tools and agent harnesses daily to inform product decisions.

What We Are Looking For

  • 7+ years of product management experience, preferably in developer tools or a related field.
  • Technical expertise to dive into architecture docs, follow design discussions, and ask the right questions.
  • A clear point of view on what makes infrastructure agent-friendly, with experience using AI coding tools and agent harnesses.
  • Bias toward speed, preferring to ship something imperfect and learn rather than spend more time refining a spec.
  • Experience building with the products on your roadmap, connecting to Supabase through the MCP server, and testing agent responses.
  • Ability to use AI tools for research, drafting, and synthesizing feedback.
  • Experience working asynchronously, making decisions in writing, and moving threads forward without meetings.

Nice to Have

  • Experience as a founder or in a leadership role, with strong product instincts.
  • Knowledge of Anthropic, OpenAI, and the broader AI community, with opinions about the primitives developers need.
  • Experience shipping something that puts your opinions about agent-friendly infrastructure to the test.
  • Familiarity with the Supabase platform and its ecosystem.

Benefits and Perks

  • Fully remote work arrangement, with the option to work from anywhere in the world.
  • WeWork membership or co-working allowance to support your ideal work environment.
  • ESOP (equity ownership) in the company, aligning your goals with the company's success.
  • Tech allowance to set up your ideal work environment, including laptop, monitor, headphones, or other necessary tools.
  • Opportunity to work with a cutting-edge platform and contribute to the future of AI-driven development.

How to Stand Out

  • Develop a strong understanding of AI-driven development and its implications for product management.
  • Practice using AI coding tools and agent harnesses to demonstrate your familiarity with these technologies.
  • Highlight your ability to work asynchronously and make decisions in writing, as this is a key aspect of Supabase's remote work culture.
  • Be prepared to discuss your point of view on what makes infrastructure agent-friendly and how you've applied this understanding in previous roles.
  • Emphasize your experience with product roadmaps, launch metrics, and the ability to track and learn from launch successes and failures.
  • Show a portfolio of your work, including any products or features you've managed, to demonstrate your capabilities as a product manager.
