Job Description

About the Role

The Product Manager for API and Platform at Descript is a pivotal role that involves building and owning the platform that enables automated video editing at scale. This position is crucial as it bridges the gap between Descript's powerful editing capabilities and the needs of media businesses looking to leverage these capabilities as infrastructure. The role entails working closely with cross-functional teams, including the Agentic AI team, to define and expose editing capabilities through the API, ensuring a seamless developer experience.

Day-to-day, this role involves strategic planning, stakeholder management, and technical expertise to drive the development of APIs and integrations that unlock new use cases for Descript's technology. This is a 0 to 1 area, meaning the scope for innovation and impact is vast. The Product Manager will be responsible for launching integrations that enable content workflows at scale, working with MCP wrappers, no-code workflow platforms, and strategic partners.

The role's success is measured by the adoption and satisfaction of the platform among developers and media businesses, as well as the ability to scale and improve the editing capabilities exposed through the API. Given the pioneering nature of this position, the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity is essential.

What You Will Do

  • Own the API and developer experience, ensuring it meets the needs of media businesses and developers looking to create content workflows at scale.

  • Analyze market trends and competitor activity to inform product decisions.
  • Develop and manage the API documentation and developer portal to ensure a seamless onboarding experience.

  • Strong technical skills, with the ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the digital media or advertising industry.
  • Knowledge of AI-powered editing tools and their potential applications.
