About the Role

The Product Manager, Shopping position at OpenAI is a critical role that involves defining and building the next generation of AI-powered shopping experiences within ChatGPT. This role sits at the intersection of AI, commerce, search, recommendations, and consumer product experiences, requiring strong collaboration with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, research, design, and business. The successful candidate will be responsible for understanding user needs, identifying opportunities to improve product discovery and decision-making, and delivering experiences that help users confidently find and purchase the products that are right for them.

As a key member of the Shopping team, the Product Manager will partner closely with engineers, designers, researchers, and stakeholders to bring new shopping experiences from concept to scale. This involves working across a broad set of domains, including search, recommendations, personalization, merchant and product ecosystems, and conversational commerce. The role requires strong product judgment, comfort operating in ambiguity, and the ability to balance user value, business objectives, and technical constraints.

What You Will Do

  • Define and drive the product vision for shopping experiences in ChatGPT
  • Partner with research teams to explore how AI can help users discover, evaluate, and confidently purchase products
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and scale AI-native shopping experiences
  • Partner with growth, GTM, marketing, and business teams to drive user adoption, merchant engagement, and ecosystem growth
  • Work with merchants, brands, retailers, and external partners to improve product quality, shopping experiences, and user outcomes
  • Use data and user feedback to identify opportunities, measure impact, and inform product strategy
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the commerce and shopping landscape, including market trends and competitor activity
  • Identify and prioritize product opportunities that align with business objectives and user needs
  • Develop and execute A/B testing and experimentation plans to validate product hypotheses

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of product management experience with strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and communication skills
  • Experience in shopping, e-commerce, marketplaces, search, recommendations, consumer growth, or related product areas
  • Proven track record of building and scaling impactful consumer products serving large and diverse user bases
  • Strong product judgment and the ability to balance user value, business objectives, and technical constraints
  • Experience working with AI, machine learning, or related technologies
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, with the ability to inform product decisions with data
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems
