About the Role

The Product and Privacy Counsel role at Supabase is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team of professionals who are passionate about creating innovative database solutions. As a member of the Legal team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, Security, and Go To Market, to provide expert guidance on legal, privacy, and compliance issues. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include advising on product development, data usage, and regulatory compliance, as well as building scalable launch review processes and internal guidance.

You will be expected to translate complex legal issues into practical, actionable recommendations that support the company's growth and scalability. What You Will Do

  • Act as primary counsel for product and engineering teams from concept through launch
  • Advise on legal issues related to product development, data usage, privacy, security, AI, integrations, and APIs
  • Partner with Engineering and Product on privacy, AI, and compliance questions
  • Build scalable product launch review processes, legal checklists, internal guidance, and playbooks
  • Own and drive global privacy, data protection, and AI governance strategy, including regulatory compliance across relevant jurisdictions
  • Advise on global privacy, regulatory, and compliance considerations related to Supabase products
  • Support customer and GTM teams on privacy-related contract issues, product terms, security, and privacy questions, and enterprise risk reviews
  • Help develop and maintain legal frameworks for AI and data usage, product claims, third-party integrations, and partner and customer-facing commitments
  • Partner cross-functionally with Security, Finance, Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and People as Supabase scales
  • Serve as a key legal voice on cross-functional leadership decisions, including on matters of regulatory risk, privacy posture, and product strategy

What We Are Looking For

  • 8 to 12+ years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house privacy counsel experience, preferably at global SaaS organizations handling sensitive customer data
  • Strong experience advising technical product, SaaS, cloud, developer tools, data, AI, security, or infrastructure teams
  • Working knowledge of privacy, data protection, and product compliance
  • Ability to translate legal risk into practical, business-minded recommendations
  • Strong written communication and async collaboration skills
  • Experience building scalable legal processes, templates, playbooks, or product review frameworks
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction
  • Track record of operating with meaningful autonomy and contributing to legal function leadership
  • Business-minded and pragmatic approach to legal issues
  • Product-oriented, with a focus on supporting business growth and scalability

Nice to Have

  • Experience at a globally operating open-source, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, database, AI, data, or security company
  • Privacy certification such as CIPP/E or CIPP/US
  • Experience with AI and data governance, model and data usage rights, or emerging product compliance issues
  • Experience supporting enterprise SaaS customers or security and privacy reviews
