About the Role
The ProFee Oncology Coder role at Savista is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced professional to join a team dedicated to delivering high-quality revenue cycle improvement services to healthcare organizations. As a ProFee Oncology Coder, you will play a critical role in reviewing clinical documentation to assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes for specific patient types, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Your expertise will help enable healthcare organizations to navigate the biggest challenges in healthcare, delivering quality clinical care and optimal financial results.Day-to-day, you will work closely with client staff and providers to validate APC calculations, abstract clinical data, and maintain accurate and up-to-date records. Your attention to detail, analytical skills, and knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology will be essential in this role. You will also participate in client and Savista staff meetings, trainings, and conference calls as requested, maintaining strict patient and provider confidentiality in compliance with all HIPAA guidelines.
What You Will Do
- Review clinical documentation to assign and sequence ICD-10 and/or CPT/HCPCS codes for designated patient types
- Validate APC calculations to accurately capture diagnoses/procedures documented in the clinical record
- Abstract clinical data from the record after documentation review to ensure it is adequate and appropriate
- Complete assigned work functions utilizing appropriate resources
- Act as a resource for client staff for data integrity, clarification, and assistance in understanding and determining appropriate and compliant coding practices
- Participate in continuing education activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and maintain current credentials
- Maintain current working knowledge of ICD-10 and/or CPT/HCPCS and coding guidelines, government regulations, protocols, and third-party requirements
- Collaborate with the team to deliver high-quality services and support the success of healthcare organizations
- Utilize Excel to enter data, sort, and filter files, and maintain accurate records
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and new coding guidelines
What We Are Looking For
- Active AHIMA (American Health Information Association) credential, including RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, or active AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) credentials COC, CCS-P, or CPC
- Two years of recent and relevant hands-on coding experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, as well as ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS code sets
- Ability to consistently code at 95% threshold for quality while maintaining client-specific and/or Savista production and/or quality standards
- Proficient computer knowledge, including MS Office, with the ability to enter data, sort, and filter Excel files
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with all levels of internal and external customers
- Strong analytical and attention to detail skills, with the ability to work accurately and efficiently
Nice to Have
- Recent and relevant experience in an active production coding environment
- Associate's degree in HIM or a healthcare-related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience
- Experience using Rcx, Cerner, or NextGen
- Certification in a related specialty
