Job Description

About the Role

The Program Manager, Intake & Portfolio Management, plays a critical role in bridging the gap between strategy and impact within Stripe's People Strategy & Enablement team. This is not a typical project management role; instead, it's an opportunity to own the systems, processes, and judgment layer that determines what the Partners, Operations & Insights organization works on and in what order. The successful candidate will serve as the connective tissue between the People team's ambitions and POI's capacity.

As a key member of the team, the Program Manager will build and run Stripe's POI intake and prioritization process end-to-end, from designing the intake experience for requestors to facilitating prioritization conversations with POI and People team leaders. This function is expected to mature into a broader portfolio intelligence role, ensuring that the organization's limited resource — team capacity — is always directed at the highest-priority work.

The role's scope is both challenging and rewarding, requiring a unique blend of project management, technical skills, and strategic thinking. By leveraging tools like Excel and Google Sheets, the Program Manager will drive operational excellence and alignment, enabling the People team to move faster and with confidence.

What You Will Do

  • Own and operate the POI intake process end-to-end, managing the Jira-based intake system to ensure all incoming requests are triaged promptly, routed correctly, and tracked through their full lifecycle.
  • Serve as the primary intake partner for People team requestors, acting as a knowledgeable and approachable first point of contact who helps teams scope and frame requests well.
  • Facilitate regular intake and portfolio cadences, setting the cadence for POI Intake reviews, backlog grooming, and full roadmap reviews.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment and effective prioritization of projects.
  • Design, iterate on, and deploy an intelligent intake assistant that helps with automated scoping, duplicate request detection, time commitment estimation, resourcing recommendations, and prioritization guidance.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the intake and prioritization process, identifying areas for efficiency gains and implementing changes to enhance the overall experience for requestors and the POI team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that project goals and objectives are met, and that the organization's strategic initiatives are supported.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the organization's priorities, goals, and challenges, using this knowledge to inform intake and prioritization decisions.
  • Analyze data and metrics to inform process improvements and optimize the intake and portfolio management function.

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in a fast-paced tech environment, with a strong track record of delivering projects on time and to a high standard.
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles, methods, and tools, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical and effective way.
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, and Jira, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and systems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets, identify trends and insights, and inform business decisions.
  • Experience in designing and implementing processes and systems, with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and user experience.
  • Ability to work in a remote environment, with a high degree of autonomy and self-motivation, and a strong ability to collaborate with distributed teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI or machine learning technologies, with a strong interest in exploring how these can be applied to improve business processes and outcomes.
  • Knowledge of Agile project management methodologies, with experience in applying these in a practical and effective way.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools, with the ability to collect, analyze, and present data to inform business decisions.

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and benefits package, with a focus on providing a comprehensive and supportive work environment.
  • Opportunity to work with a fast-paced and innovative tech company, with a strong mission and values-driven culture.
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment, with a team of experienced and passionate professionals who are dedicated to delivering exceptional results.
  • Flexible and remote work arrangements, with the ability to work from anywhere and create a schedule that suits your needs and preferences.
  • Access to cutting-edge tools and technologies, with a focus on continuous learning and professional development.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness package, with a focus on supporting the physical and mental health of all employees.
  • Generous paid time off and holiday allowance, with a focus on providing a healthy work-life balance.

How to Stand Out

  • Develop a strong understanding of project management principles and tools, including Excel, Google Sheets, and Jira, to increase your chances of success in this role.
  • Highlight your experience in designing and implementing processes and systems, and be prepared to provide specific examples of how you have improved efficiency and scalability in previous roles.
  • Showcase your analytical and strategic thinking skills, and be prepared to discuss how you have applied these to drive business outcomes in previous roles.
  • Be prepared to discuss your experience in working with cross-functional teams, and how you have collaborated with stakeholders to deliver projects and drive business results.
