Job Description

About the Role

The Program Manager, Procurement Center of Excellence, plays a pivotal role in Openai's mission to ensure responsible, compliant, and efficient spending. This position is integral to the design and scaling of processes, systems, governance, and operating models that enable procurement to grow effectively alongside the business. The role involves close collaboration with procurement and cross-functional teams to simplify the work request, routing, approval, and management process across the spend lifecycle. By combining program leadership, process design, and change enablement, the Procurement Program Manager helps procurement scale while maintaining strong controls and delivering an exceptional experience for employees and business partners.

The Procurement Program Manager will lead complex, cross-functional initiatives spanning strategic sourcing, procure-to-pay, extended workforce, travel and expense, corporate card, risk, legal, finance, and technology teams. This is a highly collaborative role that requires the ability to thrive in fast-moving environments, bring structure to ambiguity, and be comfortable facilitating executive discussions, building project plans, and rolling up sleeves to help move initiatives forward.

What You Will Do

  • Lead cross-functional procurement transformation programs spanning strategic sourcing, procure-to-pay, extended workforce, travel and expense, corporate card, risk, and procurement systems.
  • Develop and maintain the procurement transformation roadmap, partnering across teams to identify opportunities, prioritize initiatives, map dependencies, sequence work effectively, and align investments against strategic business objectives.
  • Translate business needs into scalable requirements, partnering with procurement subject matter experts and enterprise platform technology teams to design processes, workflows, controls, reporting, and user experiences.
  • Drive quarterly planning and execution, maintaining visibility into milestones, risks, dependencies, resource needs, and delivery timelines across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Contribute directly to project delivery, including requirements gathering, process design, testing coordination, documentation, rollout planning, training, and change enablement.
  • Partner with procurement verticals to accelerate execution, helping teams define problems, structure workstreams, develop solutions, and move projects from idea to implementation.
  • Lead governance and operating rhythms, including project reviews, leadership updates, status reporting, issue escalation, and decision tracking.
  • Coordinate cross-functional implementations involving procurement, legal, finance, security, privacy, risk, and enterprise platform technology teams.
  • Develop executive-ready communications and reporting, translating complex programs into clear updates, recommendations, risks, and outcomes.
  • Define success metrics and measure outcomes, leveraging data and insights to evaluate adoption, operational performance, process effectiveness, and business impact.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve user experiences, strengthen controls, and scale operations through automation, analytics, and AI.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in managing procurement programs, preferably in a fast-paced technology environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Salesforce and Excel, with the ability to leverage these tools for process optimization and data analysis.
  • Excellent program leadership, process design, and change enablement skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including strategic sourcing, procure-to-pay, extended workforce, travel and expense, corporate card, risk, legal, finance, and technology teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and maintain focus on outcomes.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining procurement transformation roadmaps and contributing to project delivery.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate executive discussions and develop executive-ready communications.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment, with 3 days in the office per week, and relocate to San Francisco if necessary.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with procurement systems and technologies.
  • Knowledge of extended workforce, travel and expense, and corporate card management.
  • Familiarity with risk, legal, and finance teams and their roles in procurement.
  • Certification in procurement or a related field.
  • Experience with data analysis and process optimization.
