About the Role
The Project Accountant position at Aecon Group Inc. is a critical component of the company's financial management team, responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of projects located in Barbados. This role entails a deep understanding of financial principles, the ability to work closely with project managers, and a keen eye for detail to ensure accurate financial reporting. This role requires a high level of organization, as the accountant will be responsible for multiple projects simultaneously, each with its unique financial requirements and deadlines. The team context is collaborative, with the accountant working closely with senior finance directors, project managers, and other financial professionals to ensure seamless financial operations.

What You Will Do
- Assist with month-end close and prepare necessary journal entries.
- Prepare and enter month-end accruals and cost transfers.
- Prepare monthly VAT filings and related reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and yearly financial statements, supporting schedules, and reports.
- Assist in the preparation of cash flows for the project.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations related to the Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
- Assist with accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, and preparing financial reports.
- Assist with audits - financial, internal control, and tax.
- Assist in dealing with tax authorities, unions, suppliers, and sub-contractors.
- Assist with the review and issue of project cost reports and with developing Estimated Costs at Completion (ECAC).
- Assist in compiling contract billings, managing change orders, and subcontracts.
- Participate in the preparation of project forecasts, quarterly/annual Business Plans/Budgets for the project.
- Manage the procure-to-pay system (Requisitions, Purchase orders, Receiving, etc.).
- Enter client billings into the applicable system.
What We Are Looking For
- Post-secondary education in Finance, Economics, or Accounting.
- 5+ years of experience in project accounting, with experience in construction or a related industry preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel and experience with SAP, BPC, and Business Objects.
- Strong understanding of financial principles and practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with financial statement preparation and analysis.
- Knowledge of VAT and tax regulations.
- Experience with audits and internal controls.
