About the Role

As a Property Claims Examiner II at Mercury Insurance, you'll play a critical role in helping policyholders navigate the claims process and restore their lives after unexpected events. You'll work closely with vendors, insureds, and other stakeholders to investigate, evaluate, and settle moderate homeowner's property claims in a timely and efficient manner. Your expertise and attention to detail will ensure that claims are handled fairly and that customers receive exceptional service.

The Property Claims team at Mercury Insurance is dedicated to delivering outstanding customer experiences, and as a key member of this team, you'll be expected to embody this commitment. You'll work independently with limited supervision, using your knowledge of company policies, regulatory standards, and procedures to make informed decisions and drive positive outcomes.

What You Will Do

  • Investigate and resolve Homeowner's claims of moderate complexity in a prompt and efficient manner, documenting findings with photographs, measurements, and recorded interviews as needed.
  • Use imagery and advanced video technology to collaborate with onsite vendors and insureds, identifying damage and writing damage estimates from a virtual setting.
  • Compare facts gathered during the investigation against the policy to determine coverage of claim and extend or deny coverage as appropriate.
  • Establish reserve amounts within prescribed settlement authority limits and negotiate settlement of claims, recommending claims that exceed personal authority limits to supervisors for approval.
  • Communicate effectively and timely with insureds and/or their representatives to resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction, responding to phone calls, emails, texts, and written communication in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Prioritize your responsibilities and manage your claims workload to regularly monitor progress and expenses, ensuring that inventory is resolved to conclusion in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Direct, monitor, and review files handled by independent adjusters to conclusion, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry developments, regulatory standards, and company policies, applying this knowledge to continuously improve your skills and performance.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain state-specific property claims licensing, as required.
  • Successful completion of formal property claims training program, which may take place in person, virtually, or a combination of both.
  • Prior experience using estimating software like Xactimate.
  • Experience in a related field, such as property claims, customer service, construction, restoration, or mitigation.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Bilingual and/or prior military experience is a plus.
  • 3-5+ years of equivalent industry experience is preferred.
