About the Role

As a Psychiatrist at Unum Group, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical analysis and expertise to support the company's benefits and services. Day-to-day, you will be working closely with cross-functional teams, including healthcare providers and other medical consultants, to provide expert medical direction and opinions.

You will be reporting to a senior medical consultant and will be expected to collaborate with other team members to achieve shared goals.

What You Will Do

  • Provide timely and clear medical direction and opinions to team partners, with reasoned forensic analysis to support medical opinions
  • Partner and consult with fellow medical consultants to ensure the completion of whole-person analyses
  • Apply medical knowledge to determine functional capacity through assessment of medical and other data related to impairment
  • Provide relevant medical education and knowledge to others in terms appropriate and understandable to the intended audience
  • Perform telephone contacts with healthcare providers to gather medical information and facilitate a better understanding of claimants' functional abilities
  • Make timely and appropriate referrals for second opinion reviews when required
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage and complete high volumes of assigned work, maintaining consistently good turnaround times and operating with a sense of urgency
  • Focus not only on individual workload but also on team/group work volumes to ensure organizational success

What We Are Looking For

  • Professional degree (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD) in psychiatry or a related field
  • Active, unrestricted US medical license
  • Board certification required in psychiatry
  • Minimum of five years of clinical experience in psychiatry
  • Strong team and collaborative skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based corporate environment
  • Ability to mentor others and give and receive constructive, behaviorally-based feedback with peers and partners
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a remote or telehealth setting
  • Familiarity with Excel and other data analysis tools
  • Certification in a related specialty, such as pain management or addiction medicine
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations
