Public Policy, Advocacy, and Outreach Committee Member (Volunteer)

As a committee member, you will leverage your digital skills to amplify the organization's message, engage with stakeholders, and drive policy changes.

What You Will Do

• Develop and recommend an annual public policy agenda to the Board of Directors
• Review the 2009 Call to Action Report of the National FAS Taskforce and provide recommendations for action
• Identify legislative and policy changes through research studies, partner input, and advocacy efforts
• Review and recommend policy and legislative positions that align with FASD United's mission
• Collaborate with the FASD United Policy team to advocate for policy and legislative proposals
• Partner with staff to identify gaps in the advocacy network and engage new advocates for FASD policy change
• Connect with community partners to broaden the organization's outreach and education efforts
• Work with the Philanthropy Committee to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels
• Participate in monthly committee meetings to discuss progress and strategic plans
• Stay informed about current state and national legislation affecting FASD individuals
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including public officials and community leaders

What We Are Looking For

• A strong grasp of public policy and its application in advocacy efforts
• Experience in remote work and digital communication, with the ability to leverage digital skills to drive policy changes
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork
• Knowledge of FASD and its impact on individuals and communities, with a passion for advocacy and support
• Experience in policy development, advocacy, or a related field, with a strong understanding of the legislative process
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review complex information and provide recommendations
• Ability to commit to a two-year term as a committee member, with a willingness to participate in monthly meetings and ongoing advocacy efforts

Nice to Have

• Experience working with non-profit organizations or advocacy groups, with a strong understanding of the non-profit sector
• Familiarity with digital advocacy tools and platforms, with the ability to leverage technology to drive policy changes
• Strong networking skills, with the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and community partners
