About the Role
The Public Policy, Advocacy, and Outreach Committee at FASD United plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission to support individuals living with FASD. This dedicated team works tirelessly to educate the community, advocate for policy changes, and build a network of supportive partners. As a committee member, you will be at the forefront of shaping public policy agendas, reviewing legislative changes, and ensuring that the organization's message is consistent and impactful.The committee's work is centered around creating a cohesive and supportive environment for individuals living with FASD. This involves staying informed about current state and national legislation, building relationships with community partners, and identifying areas where advocacy efforts can make a significant difference. What You Will Do
- Develop and recommend an annual public policy agenda to the Board of Directors
- Review the 2009 Call to Action Report of the National FAS Taskforce and provide recommendations for action
- Identify legislative and policy changes through research studies, partner input, and advocacy efforts
- Review and recommend policy and legislative positions that align with FASD United's mission
- Collaborate with the FASD United Policy team to advocate for policy and legislative proposals
- Partner with staff to identify gaps in the advocacy network and engage new advocates for FASD policy change
- Connect with community partners to broaden the organization's outreach and education efforts
- Work with the Philanthropy Committee to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels
- Participate in monthly committee meetings to discuss progress and strategic plans
- Stay informed about current state and national legislation affecting FASD individuals
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including public officials and community leaders
