About the Role
The Public Policy & Government Engagement Intern role at Karya is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, public policy, and governance. As a key member of the team, the intern will contribute to research, analysis, and writing related to AI governance, AI adoption, and digital public infrastructure. The role is based in India, preferably Delhi, and is available for a duration of 3-6 months.The intern will work closely with the Public Policy & Government Engagement team to identify opportunities for AI integration across government programs and public service delivery sectors. This will involve conducting research on AI governance, AI regulation, responsible AI, and emerging technology policy developments in India and globally.

What You Will Do
- Conduct research on AI governance, AI regulation, responsible AI, and emerging technology policy developments in India and globally
- Track policy developments across central ministries, state governments, regulatory bodies, and international organizations
- Identify opportunities for AI integration across government programs and public service delivery sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, livelihoods, social welfare, and climate resilience
- Analyze government schemes, missions, and policy priorities to identify potential AI use cases and implementation pathways
- Prepare policy briefs, research notes, presentations, stakeholder profiles, and strategic memos
- Support the development of concept notes, proposals, and thought leadership pieces on AI and public policy
- Monitor developments in AI safety, evaluation frameworks, foundation models, digital public infrastructure, and multilingual AI
- Conduct stakeholder mapping and background research for engagements with government, academia, industry, and civil society
What We Are Looking For
- Currently pursuing a degree in Public Policy, Law, Economics, or a related field
- Strong interest in AI, technology policy, governance, and public affairs
- Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise and actionable insights
- Strong Excel skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Nice to Have
- Experience in AI, technology policy, or governance
- Familiarity with digital public infrastructure and multilingual AI
