About the Role
As a Public Sector Strategic Account Executive at Gitlab, you will play a crucial role in driving the adoption of GitLab's AI-powered DevSecOps platform among state and local agencies and higher education institutions. Your primary focus will be on developing trusted relationships with CIOs, technical leaders, and key stakeholders across your territory, driving successful rollouts and adoption of GitLab. You will report to a Regional Director and own a defined book of business, building and executing multi-year account plans that align GitLab's platform with public sector modernization initiatives.The public sector is undergoing a significant transformation, with agencies recognizing the need to modernize their software development and security practices. As a strategic account executive, you will be at the forefront of this shift, helping agencies navigate complex procurement cycles and develop multi-year technology roadmaps. What You Will Do
- Build and execute strategic account plans that align GitLab's AI-powered DevSecOps platform with public sector modernization initiatives
- Navigate complex procurement and contracting processes while shaping multi-year technology roadmaps with CIOs and technical leaders
- Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for strategic and large public sector prospects and customers
- Own your book of business, from pipeline development through close and expansion, using a consultative, mission-focused sales approach
- Collaborate with pre-sales and post-sales engineering, customer success, and support teams to ensure successful rollout, adoption, and value realization
- Partner with system integrators, resellers, and other channel partners to generate qualified leads and co-create solutions for government challenges
- Conduct ongoing prospecting and opportunity development activities within large and strategic accounts to drive new and expansion business
- Represent the voice of the customer by sharing feedback and product ideas through GitLab's public issue tracker and internal teams
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the public sector market, including trends, challenges, and opportunities
- Stay up-to-date on GitLab's products and services, including new features and releases
- Provide input and feedback to GitLab's product and engineering teams to help shape the company's product roadmap
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in sales, account management, or a related field, with a focus on the public sector
- Proven track record of success in driving revenue growth and expanding existing accounts
- Strong understanding of the public sector market, including trends, challenges, and opportunities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with CIOs, technical leaders, and key stakeholders
- Experience with DevSecOps and software development, including CI/CD automation and secure development practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex procurement cycles and develop multi-year technology roadmaps
- Experience working with system integrators, resellers, and other channel partners
- Strong business acumen, with the ability to develop and execute strategic account plans
- Experience with CRM and sales automation tools
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business, computer science, or engineering
