Python Backend Engineer - Remote

About the Role

Our mission is to reduce administrative workload in healthcare, and we're looking for someone who shares this vision. As a backend engineer, you will work closely with our existing team to improve the stability and delivery speed of our backend systems. You will be expected to take real responsibility for your work, making decisions and driving progress with minimal supervision.

What You Will Do

• Develop and maintain backend systems written in Python, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and efficient
• Work heavily with databases, data models, and external APIs to integrate our software with third-party healthcare providers
• Build and improve integrations with third-party healthcare software providers, handling REST APIs, authentication, and edge cases
• Maintain data transformation, validation, and synchronization logic to ensure seamless data flow
• Debug production issues, data inconsistencies, and API problems, using your strong debugging instincts to resolve issues quickly
• Improve testing, validation, monitoring, health checks, and failure handling to ensure our systems are always running smoothly
• Work with cloud technologies such as GCP, AWS, Azure, or comparable platforms to deploy and manage our backend infrastructure
• Use AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, or similar as a core part of your daily workflow
• Write clean, maintainable, testable backend code that meets our high standards

What We Are Looking For

• Strong Python backend experience in production environments, with a focus on scalability and reliability
• Experience with databases, data models, and API integrations, including REST APIs and authentication
• Solid understanding of cloud technologies such as GCP, AWS, Azure, or similar, including serverless functions and async workflows
• Strong debugging instincts, with experience debugging production issues and resolving complex problems
• Ability to work with typed Python, structured data models, and validation frameworks to ensure data consistency
• Experience writing tests and validating backend behavior before shipping, using tools such as Pytest or Unittest
• High intelligence, fast learning speed, and a bias to action, with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
• Comfortable with ambiguity, fast decisions, and a high-trust startup environment, with excellent written and spoken English skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with healthcare software, healthcare data, or integration middleware, with a deep understanding of the healthcare industry
• Familiarity with async Python and concurrent API calls, using tools such as asyncio or trio
• Experience with document databases, NoSQL systems, or event-driven backend systems, such as MongoDB or Cassandra
• Knowledge of nursing homes or elderly care workflows, with a passion for improving healthcare outcomes
