Job Description

About the Role

As a Range Operator at Downer, you will play a vital role in supporting the Australian Defence Force by maintaining range facilities and ensuring site security and compliance. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to the country's defence capability. The role is based primarily at RAAF base Wagga or Kapooka, with occasional travel to nearby bases.

Day-to-day, you will work closely with the Range Supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of range facilities. This includes conducting basic inspections and maintenance, as well as providing support for training activities. Your work will be critical in ensuring the safety and security of Defence personnel and the general public.

What You Will Do

  • Support the Range Supervisor in the operation and maintenance of range facilities
  • Conduct basic inspections and maintenance of range facilities and equipment
  • Ensure site security and compliance with range standing orders and safety procedures
  • Provide support for training activities and events
  • Conduct grounds maintenance, including lawn care, gardening, and trimming
  • Respond to first fire incidents and provide support for emergency services
  • Deliver specialist training area and range performance
  • Provide input into reporting to support the Range Supervisor
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure the smooth operation of range facilities

What We Are Looking For

  • Knowledge or experience with facilities maintenance, minor repairs, and caretaker responsibilities
  • An interest in grounds work and maintenance, including lawn care, gardening, and trimming
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizenship is mandatory)
  • Current Open Driver's Licence
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice to Have

  • Range Induction Course (desirable)
  • Medium Rigid Truck Licence (desirable)
  • Experience working in a similar role or industry
  • Knowledge of Defence procedures and protocols
