About the Role

The Regional Threat Assessment Manager will be responsible for leading the threat assessment and management efforts for Coinbase's Protective Intelligence program. This role will entail working closely with various stakeholders, including GSOC, Executive Protection, Legal, HR/ER, Insider Threat, and Communications, to identify, assess, and mitigate threats to Coinbase employees, executives, facilities, and operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in threat assessment and management, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills.

As a Regional Threat Assessment Manager, you will be the subject matter expert for Threat Assessment and Management in your region, owning complex and sensitive threat cases from intake to closure. You will also be responsible for driving intelligence-led incident response and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely escalation and decision support.

The Protective Intelligence program is a critical component of Coinbase's Security organization, and the Regional Threat Assessment Manager will play a key role in helping to mature the program's regional capabilities. This will involve improving intake standards, QA/QC, playbooks, metrics, training, and handoff processes, as well as mentoring peers through expertise and influence.

What You Will Do

  • Own end-to-end threat case management for your region, from intake and triage to behavioral assessment, mitigation planning, documentation, and closure.
  • Lead structured behavioral threat assessments using Coinbase methodologies and accepted frameworks to evaluate motivation, capability, escalation indicators, and stabilizers.
  • Drive intelligence-led incident response by serving as the intelligence lead during active incidents, coordinating with GSOC, ensuring timely escalation, and delivering decision support through resolution.
  • Partner with Executive Protection, GSOC, Legal, HR/ER, Insider Threat, and Communications to coordinate response actions, align mitigations, and manage reporting obligations.
  • Produce decision-ready briefings, written assessments, and executive updates that communicate threat posture, risk rationale, and recommended next steps to security leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Strengthen regional program maturity by improving intake standards, QA/QC, playbooks, metrics, training, and handoff processes.
  • Mentor peers through expertise and influence to help develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that threat assessment and management efforts are aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest threats, trends, and best practices in threat assessment and management, and apply this knowledge to improve Coinbase's Protective Intelligence program.

What We Are Looking For

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in threat assessment and management, protective intelligence, workplace violence prevention, behavioral threat assessment, or closely related security functions.
  • Demonstrated track record operating as a senior individual contributor and regional SME, independently owning ambiguous, high-consequence casework with limited oversight.
  • Proven ability to conduct threat investigations and translate fragmented information into clear assessments, prioritized risks, and practical mitigation plans.
  • Proficiency with case management and intelligence tools, such as Ontic, OSINT platforms, public records research, and social media monitoring.
  • Experience coordinating with law enforcement, managing investigative referrals, and navigating workplace violence reporting obligations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a remote-first environment and collaborating with distributed teams.
  • Knowledge of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, as well as the unique security challenges associated with these industries.
  • Familiarity with Coinbase's Protective Intelligence program and its mission to protect employees, executives, and facilities from potential threats.
  • Certification in threat assessment and management, such as the Certified Threat Manager (CTM) or the Certified Protection Professional (CPP).

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and equity package.
  • Opportunity to work with a fast-growing and innovative company in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space.
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment with a team of experienced professionals.
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options.
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools, including case management and intelligence software.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities to help you stay up-to-date with the latest threats, trends, and best practices in threat assessment and management.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401(k) matching and paid time off.

How to Stand Out

  • Develop a strong understanding of threat assessment and management principles, including the use of structured professional judgment frameworks.
  • Build a portfolio of your work, including examples of threat assessments and mitigation plans you've developed and implemented.
  • Prepare to discuss your experience working with cross-functional teams and collaborating with stakeholders to drive incident response and threat mitigation efforts.
  • Research Coinbase's Protective Intelligence program and its mission to protect employees, executives, and facilities from potential threats.
  • Be ready to discuss your knowledge of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, as well as the unique security challenges associated with these industries.
  • Practice your communication and presentation skills, as you'll be working closely with stakeholders and presenting findings and recommendations to security leadership and cross-functional teams.
