About the Role

The Regulatory Compliance Manager at NerdWallet plays a pivotal role in supporting the company's Compliance Management System (CMS). This position is ideal for a compliance professional who thrives in dynamic environments, building structures, refining processes, and partnering closely with the business as the CMS evolves. The role reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and is well-suited for individuals with experience in consumer lending and insurance, where they can apply their knowledge to make a significant impact.

The compliance landscape in fintech is constantly changing, with new regulations andguidelines being introduced regularly. As a Regulatory Compliance Manager, you will be at the forefront of this effort, working closely with cross-functional teams to embed compliance controls into business processes and support scalable growth.

What You Will Do

  • Support and mature the Company’s newly implemented Compliance Management System (CMS), including risk assessments, monitoring, issue management, and governance processes.
  • Implement compliance monitoring and testing across business lines, including marketing, product, operations, and third parties, documenting findings and supporting remediation efforts.
  • Support enterprise compliance risk assessments, including risk identification, scoring, and issue mitigation tracking.
  • Draft, review, and maintain compliance policies and procedures, ensuring they remain current, practical, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments affecting fintech, consumer lending, and insurance products, providing practical compliance guidance to Legal and Compliance Management.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to embed compliance controls into business processes and support scalable growth.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the compliance program.
  • Collaborate with the compliance team to develop and implement compliance training programs for employees.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, applying this knowledge to continuously improve the compliance function.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, risk management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of regulatory compliance experience within financial services or fintech.
  • Experience supporting a newly implemented or evolving CMS is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in consumer lending and/or insurance compliance is preferred.
  • CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager) designation is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience conducting compliance testing, monitoring, and risk assessments.
  • Ability to assess control design and operational effectiveness in evolving environments.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Operations, Legal, and Engineering teams.
  • Comfortable operating in environments where processes are still being built or refined.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities.

  • Experience with compliance software and systems.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and its application in compliance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with agile project management methodologies.
  • Participation in industry compliance groups or forums.
